A refreshing nature reserve in the city, Very beautiful with lots of amazing trees that you get to learn about on your trail, it was very fascinating to see the crabs in their environment, we walked for about 20 minutes on our little trail. (edit) on the second visit we took a second trail which leads you out straight to the beach.. Absolutely perfect. Please do not litter whilst there or anywhere else for that matter!!!!! Important to note they are open once a month every 3rd Saturday of the month from 8am to 1pm. Enjoy good people I highly recommend a visit here. No entry charge, however you are welcome to donate or grab a black bag and help clean up the beach, There's volunteers cleaning up at almost every visit.l

Beautiful and educational outdoor experience near the city. The reserve is usually closed and only accessible/open once a month every 3rd Saturday of the month from 8am to 1pm. Entrance is free and there are lots of volunteer park rangers walking around interacting and educating the public. Addition there is also an initiative to encourage people to help clean up the litter on the beach. The entire walk is on a wooden raised train. The trail will roughly take you 45min and is flat. Great family venue.

24 October 2024 This must be my second time coming here after 10 years ago. It is refreshing and you get in touch with nature. The dad part is that when we went close to the beach the effects of waste was visible. There was waste all over and I wish us people can understand how our ignorance and lack of empathy for the Environment is bringing harm. I enjoyed the tour and was reminisce about when I came here for the first time.

I can't believe that in all the time I've lived in Durban, I haven't visited this gem before. We went there for a plant fair, and took a very pleasant stroll along the boardwalks, among the mangroves. Hundreds of bright orange-red crabs scuttle along the sands, shyly retreating to their holes if disturbed. The mangroves are fascinating, and next time I'd like to take a guided tour to learn more about this incredible ecosystem.

An island of tranquility within an urban setting, this is a well-maintained and safe place (when guides are around). The nature reserve offers guided tours along an extensive boardwalk that meanders through the thick mangroves. A well curated reserve with signs on trees and the useful habitats. Every Durbanite should visit this secret gem, a stone throw from the city centre. Well done to the volunteers, Ezemvelo and WESSA !!

The reserve features well-maintained boardwalks that make exploring the mangroves an enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages. These walkways allow for close-up views of the intricate root systems of the mangroves, which play a crucial role in coastal protection and provide habitat for various marine species.
