Terrible experience. My family and I were searched like terrorists for being in possession of alcohol. Thankfully I do not drink and drive therefore I was not found to have been turned away and humiliated at the entrance. To my surprise there were large signages and a legal legislation quoting the South African bylaws prohibiting public alcohol consumption. But being a person that supports the safe consumption of alcohol I was displeased with having my surroundings with patrons smoking assorted forms of intoxicating products freely without victimization and fear. I actually felt embarrassed that I was a patron of a park that discriminated against one form of intoxication while our entire seating area was being gassed with much more than braai smoke. It is incredibly sad that there were NO signage advising on the Tobacco and Products Control Act prohibiting smoking in public and that fines/prosecution would be imposed.
All forms of intoxication can cause you to lose balance whilst hiking, thereof there should be absolutely no discrimination thereof. Fines should be imposed on all/any form of intoxication.
It is a place not to be visited again unless smoking is...
Read moreSo it was decided that we would head on to paradise valley for the day to get some fresh air and take in its beautiful scenic trials. Prior before going I phoned the land-line number given on Google maps to enquire about certain actives such as entry times, entry fee and if we are allowed to braai as we have now moved to level 3 as a country and certain activities are prohibited. However to my dissapointment there was no answer. Therefore I posted this question on the site in hopes that it would be answered by the reserve. Someone did answer however their answer was totally misleading as when we arrived we found out we could not braai and they did not accept cards only cash for entry fee ! Really dissapoting as I feel that the public should be kept in the loop on updates on covid-19 regarding the restrictions taking place within the reserve so that we DONOT waste our time driving all the way. Also if someone could kindly pick up the phone when we are calling to enquire about these things it would save a day wasted. Thank you...
Read moreThis was such a beautiful and breathtaking nature reserve. I last visited 20 years ago. Today, it is a shadow of what it was. It is not properly looked after. The water is dirty and polluted. The bridges are a safety hazard. There is polluted stinking, foamy water all over. The most disturbing thing for me is the strange people performing strange rituals with candles, eggs and other weird stuff. To me this looks like the dark arts, witchcraft or whatever. The waterfall trail is littered with evidence of these rituals and at the waterfall itself, all of these things can be seen. We actually passed an area were candles were still lighting. Besides the dark arts, shouldn't the nature reserve trails be free of fire??? I won't be taking my family back there for fear of running into freaky people or being caught in a bush fire caused by these candles. Nb, there is an army of Metro police in the parking looking important and dangerous but obviously missing the...
