Hi, I am sharing this as a warning to fellow South Africans. Please make sure you arrive early and get a parking spot that is close top the entrance as there are criminals lurking around waiting for the right time to strike. On Saturday 19 September 2020 I lost my bakkie after visiting the nature reserve.

We went the for hiking and 3 hours later on our return our bakkie was gone! What puzzles me is that the venue was full and there were a lot of people but still the criminals made off with my bakkie and no one saw anything! I went to the police station and they told me 3 vehicles were stolen on the day therefore I would like to advise you to rather user Uber to get there or alternatively get someone to drop you off and pick you up later!

This is a no-go area if you still value your vehicle. I was going to post nice pics but I am frustrated and angry. The venue on the inside is perfect and serene. People are extremely friendly and the turf is challenging we had a good time inside until we got to the parking spot to find our bakkie missing! What makes me soo sad is that I have just bought new front tyres for the bakkie and I spent R5400 and a week later...

To: The Management of Klipriver Nature Reserve Date: 27 August 2025

Dear Sir/Madam,

On Sunday, 25th August, while walking in the Klipriver Nature Reserve, I unfortunately fell and injured my ankle quite badly. During this incident, your security guards stationed at the Wonder Gate, Thabang and Dlamini came to my assistance.

I would like to commend them for the exceptional support they provided. They went above and beyond their normal duties to help me to my car, and their kindness, professionalism, and willingness to assist made a very difficult situation much easier to manage. It is rare to find such dedication, and I believe their actions deserve to be acknowledged.

I would also like to recommend that your security staff be given basic first aid training. Considering that accidents and injuries can occur in natural settings such as the reserve, having staff trained in first aid would be of great benefit to both visitors and the organization itself.

Lastly, I wish to thank you for the excellent work you do in maintaining the reserve, keeping it natural, clean, and safe for the community to enjoy.

Yours...

This is a beautiful reserve for hiking. If you don't want to drive far and want to experience amazing views with a bit of effort, then Kliprivier Nature Reserve is an excellent location. You can do anything from about a short 3-4km walk, to a 15km hike, or maybe even more if you repeat some portions to discover new detours. Sometimes you can even get lucky and see animals, like impala or zebra. Parking at the South entrance can be nightmarish on weekends, and particularly noisy. Parking at the North entrance can also get very busy on weekends, and also particularly noisy. The reserve itself is serene and quiet, with the occasional litter. It gets worse in peak season (summer weekends) Path markings in need of an update and restoration of path markers. Apparent vagrants tend to do their washing upstream in the river, so the réservés stream is often dirty from soap and smells equally bad throughout, lingering for a few days/weeks. I've explored joining the volunteering group, but found it on the expensive...

Loved this hike! We chose the purple route which was fairly easy, but we also chose the coldest day of the year to hike here! Good animal sightings of antelope and zebras. The pathways are well marked, visible and plenty of info along the way. The best part- it’s absolutely FREE! Can’t wait to go back in the summer when greenery has returned. It’s also a great place for bird watching with spectacular views of the area. There are two main entrances , which can be confusing. There are coffee shops inside the trail, awesome place to stop for a quick brekkie.

Great hiking spot with varying levels of difficulty and length, based on the routes you take. Yellow and red are the most challenging. Blue is mostly flat. Safe hiking trails, and if you're lucky, you'll spot the zebra and buck. There are bathrooms at the main entrance on the Kibler Park side, with a cafe and tuck shop. Also a fair amount of parking. The Mondeor entrance is street parking, but there are security guards. Generally, a great mid week or weekend hiking or trail running spot.
