Second time around and even more special.
Having done it 10+ years ago with a few friends and having loved it (talks for years!), it was time to go back to Africanyon, now with my (just turned) 8yr old son who enjoys a bit of excitement.
This is such a exhilirating, safe experience for kids to get confidence, explore nature and have seriously great time with their parents.
The experience has a bit of everything; kloofing, abseiling, ziplining, bouldering and jumping from rocks, floating (floatvest etc all included) - all set in an absolutely impressive display of nature and colours of green in canyons.
TBH weather doesnt matter too much. Both times were in 'winter'. Last time was in June/July on a semi cloudy day and this time it was on a sunny 17/18 degrees day in July. Double layer wetsuits are provided and you're perfectly fine.
Oh and; Super hot showers at Africanyon HQ after so perfect.
The super experienced guide 'Tebzzzz' was still there and 'King Julian' as second guide was excellent.
Coffee (or stronger) at the quality Peppermill restaurant/cafe 50m next door is recommended since you will have an appetite afterwards.
Pizza's and (salmon) panini's are good. There's a play area, goats, mohair weavery, and lovely shop etc for those who...
Read moreWhat can I say? My husband, 18 year old son and I did the short trip today and it was just amazing!! My son has Down’s syndrome and associated low muscle tone, is moderately deaf and when he doesn’t want to do something, there’s little that can be done to persuade him otherwise.
Right from the start, one of the guides, Black 1, took my son under his wing and saw that he was far more open to listening to instructions from the guide than from his parents, so Black 1 told me he would be keeping my son away from us and would guide him the whole way. And he did. He did an assisted abseil, guided him one step at a time over the entire course and let him catch a lift on his back through the swimming stages. My son was physically exhausted (literally) but Black 1 was able to help my son dig deep and enjoy the whole experience.
Honestly, these guides are amazing. They tailor everything to the level of experience you have. We all certainly walked away feeling we had really achieved something rather special.
This is a must-do for anyone in the Plett / Knysna region, thoroughly...
Read moreSteph and Darren are very friendly guides and accommodates different personalities well. The standard canyon trip took about 1h45 to complete but depends on group size. It is an activity that one should try to experience as you swim in between the canyon river, jump down rocks, zipline, abseil, slide down rope and high line. I would say some entry level fitness would help but if don't have its also okay as the guides will adjust the speed according to fitness and capabilities. Harness, helmet, wetsuit and lifejacket provided as part of the package. Pictures are taken at R200 for the entire group, so you can split the cost
The guides Steph and Darren was awesome, they chatted and pumped us up and even the cold water didn't lower the experience.
Darren's dive to release you from the high line was soooo awesome
Steph was understanding and accommodating to all levels and preferences.
I gave a 4 star as the price is on the higher side. But the...
