Beware of making a reservation at Newstadt winery - it was not honoured in our case. We had a confirmed reservation today for lunch. And arrived at spot on the designated time. Only to be told that our table was not ready for us - and that we should just wait around until it became available. The problem being apparently that the guests who had arrived earlier- the so called early shift were not leaving as yet - and that we should just hang around until they deemed to do so…….. We waited for about 15 minutes or so ….. and then decided to leave. We told the hostess of our intentions - and her reaction was ‘ok’ - no more, no less!!!

We then drove a further 15 minutes down the same road to a delightful newish vineyard for lunch - called Kay and Monty -having called ahead for a reservation- this after the Newstadt debacle.

We were cheerfully met - taken to our table overlooking a gorgeous dam - and proceeded to enjoy the most spectacular lunch - accompanied by their superb wines. Most efficient service as well.

All in all it worked out well for us today in that Newstadt didn’t honour our reservation- and didn’t seem to care one way or another.

At that led us to find the gem of the Kay and Monty winery. Which was truly fantastic.

Today’s scorecard for us based on our experiences……. Newstadt 1 Star 🌟 Kay and Monty 5...

Beautiful setting, but rushed wine tasting

Newstead is absolutely stunning the scenery, the vibe, and the wines are all top-notch. It’s the kind of place where you’d love to spend an entire afternoon. Unfortunately, our wine tasting experience didn’t match the setting.

Although we were told we "shouldn’t feel rushed," the wines were poured one after the other with very little pause or interaction. There was no real opportunity to savour each wine or hear more about them, which made the whole experience feel rushed and impersonal.

We only came for the tasting without ordering food, and I’m not sure if that influenced the level of attention we received. I truly enjoyed the wines and the beauty of the farm, but I left feeling a bit disappointed by how the tasting was handled.

With more thoughtful pacing and engagement even for wine only visitors the experience could be...

Le Toya is an incredible ambassador for this Estate Restaurant. Her recommendations for the Loaded Flatbread with lamb and tzatziki was delicious. Her warm, friendly and highly efficient service was a delight. Her chocolate sponge cake is the lightest and most sublime chocolate cake ever tasted. We come here year after year for this! The Newstead Cap Classique a must for our collection each year when released! Found the 2018 Rose’ to be the one this time! Thank you La Toya, the Newstead chef staff and this incredible gem of a Wine Estate! Plett isn’t Plett without a...

Newstead Wine Estate boasts stunning views and is in a truly beautiful setting in The Crags. We were disappointed that they only had 3 wines for tasting as the one was sold out, but both the MCC's were at least good, although rather expensive. Sadly, the waitron serving us didn't have adequate knowledge of the wines they were selling, as they basically recited the tasting notes verbatim from the bottle label. We also ordered one of their pizzas, which in our opinion turned out to be more of a flatbread than a pizza. All in all, we expected a bit more.

Exceptional friendly welcome. It was cold and rainy, but we were warm and snug with blankets and a gas heater since seating close to the fireplace was taken. We did their wine tasting which included two diverse MCC's. Their 2022 Rosé was delightfully crisp and light while the Sauvignon Blanc of the same vintage was smooth and elegant. We had the Salmon Pate & Shards to share which complemented the wine beautifully. Lots of displayed history with a view over the vineyards. Would love to visit again.

Wine tasting range from R10 to R30. Full glass of most expensive wine, R55.00 Beautiful vineyard, beautiful restaurant and tasting facility. Pizza is great and staff are friendly. If you'd like to know more about the process, ask your waiter, they come with the furniture. You will end your day successfully learning something new on the craft of Methode Cap Classique wine. Great experience during sunny or rainy days so don't let the weather stop you passing by this gem
