Beware of making a reservation at Newstadt winery - it was not honoured in our case. We had a confirmed reservation today for lunch. And arrived at spot on the designated time. Only to be told that our table was not ready for us - and that we should just wait around until it became available. The problem being apparently that the guests who had arrived earlier- the so called early shift were not leaving as yet - and that we should just hang around until they deemed to do so…….. We waited for about 15 minutes or so ….. and then decided to leave. We told the hostess of our intentions - and her reaction was ‘ok’ - no more, no less!!!
We then drove a further 15 minutes down the same road to a delightful newish vineyard for lunch - called Kay and Monty -having called ahead for a reservation- this after the Newstadt debacle.
We were cheerfully met - taken to our table overlooking a gorgeous dam - and proceeded to enjoy the most spectacular lunch - accompanied by their superb wines. Most efficient service as well.
All in all it worked out well for us today in that Newstadt didn’t honour our reservation- and didn’t seem to care one way or another.
At that led us to find the gem of the Kay and Monty winery. Which was truly fantastic.
Today’s scorecard for us based on our experiences……. Newstadt 1 Star 🌟 Kay and Monty 5...

We only came for the tasting without ordering food, and I’m not sure if that influenced the level of attention we received. I truly enjoyed the wines and the beauty of the farm, but I left feeling a bit disappointed by how the tasting was handled.
With more thoughtful pacing and engagement even for wine only visitors the experience could be...
