An absolute must of a hike 2 routes available A long one which goes around the point , or a shorter hike which splits to a lovely beach where you can relax
At a slow easy pace the Long hike can be around 3 hours , but if ur a little fitter this can come down to 90 min to 2 hours Person needs to be comfortable climbing over rocks , they are not difficult but the path does lead over some easily climbable boulders Long hike just follow the seal icon signs :):) amazing amazing hike
Shorter hike is not long at all , and can be done by ANY fitness level ( even the long hike can be done by any fitness level , it's just the time which will change )
I can estimate the long hike to be around 10km but this was just a guesstimate off my running/steps data
Coffee and drinks are available from a little caravan shop in the car park There is a tap along the long hike closer to the end of the hike by the overnight stay house , water is absolutely fine to drink
Advice to the novice hikers or in general Water is life on these hikes , even in cloudy , damp weather , these hikes can be a work out
Rather pack more water than u expect to use , a jacket or something to keep warm incase the weather changes drastically And keep ur phone fully charged before starting , keep the emergency numbers saved incase but there are countless boards along the hike giving u ur position and a number to call in an emergency Hiking in groups is always best but this hike can be done with 2 people ( preferably never hike alone, there are some points which are tricky and if a fall is had, u can be injured )
Overall a brilliant nature reserve with amazing hidden gems ( explore the shipwreck look out point or the small trail just after that on the right side as u drive in ) the small hike ,by the beach , there is a huge off shoot mountain/hill rock which can also be explored
Hope you have as much fun as...
Read moreRobberg Nature Reserve is a peninsula into the Indian Ocean about 5 km from the breathtaking, holiday playground for the rich and famous, Plettenberg Bay. Directly translated from Afrikaans to English, Robberg means Seal (Rob) Mountain (berg). Robberg has a naturally rugged terrain and the beauty stretches as far as the eye can see. In the distance is the highest peak (peak Formosa) in the Tzitzikamma, the glittering Indian ocean, and the borderline of the Knysna Indigenous Forest. Don't be fooled by the challange the Robberg hike might present. Make sure you wear good walking boots/shoes and socks. A big presentage of the hike is over uneven terrain. The hike contours up and down around the peninsula for 9.2 km with two shorter hikes. All the hikes start at the same point. If you realise the 9.2 km challange might be overpowering rather walk one of the shorter hikes . Walking anti-clockwise, reaching the point is the turning point before walking back. This part is easier than the hike back to the starting point. There is some rock climbing that might be to challenging for smaller children and if you are not hiking fit, reconsider when you get to “White Sands". Rather walk down the sand dune and take a swim while waiting for the rest of your party. When I was there, the tuck shop was closed. Take enough water and something for energy . Don't forget your camera. We saw plenty of seals. Perhaps also take a small first aid kit for blisters and most of all,...
Read moreWe recently completed the full 9km Robberg Nature Reserve trail, and it was absolutely spectacular. As reasonably fit hikers, we found it fun, varied, and at times, quite challenging—especially with the steep rock climbs and stair sections. The weather couldn’t have been better: clear blue skies, no wind—perfect conditions for hiking. Our moving time was about 2.5 hours, but with stops to enjoy the scenery, we took 4.5 hours in total. Make sure to allow enough time and pace yourself, or consider the shorter loop options if needed.
Bring a backpack with water, snacks, a jacket, sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses. There are no bins along the trail, so please carry out your rubbish. The views are breathtaking—ocean cliffs, seals, seabirds, unique plant life, and stunning landscapes at every turn. The trail is well-marked and well-maintained, but it will give your legs a good workout!
There are toilets at the start only, and limited parking—sometimes you’ll need to park at the gate and walk up. A small coffee stand offers excellent coffee, ice cream, and juice—tasty but slightly pricey, served by a friendly barista. Picnic benches and braai spots are also available.
The dead beached whale was a first, it was sad, unfortunate but the reason unknown but it impressive to see the size slthough it was smaller than I think an adult of that variety. The eco cycle of life was kicking in with the seagulls starting to gather around it.
This was our third time, and we’ll definitely...
