The Gandhi Square Precinct stands as a testament to both historical significance and modern vitality within the heart of Johannesburg's CBD. Recognized as a thriving epicenter of commercial and retail activity, this precinct has magnetized tourists and locals alike for its multifaceted offerings. Mahatma Gandhi's legacy is deeply ingrained within the precinct's fabric. Named after the revered lawyer, it memorializes his influential beginnings in Johannesburg. A statue of Gandhi, donned in his legal attire, stands as a poignant reminder of his impactful journey, grounding visitors in the rich historical heritage the square embodies. Revitalized in 2000 by OPH Property, the precinct underwent a transformative urban renewal. Securing a substantial lease on the land, the property group rejuvenated buildings surrounding the square, fostering a safe, clean, and welcoming environment complemented by round-the-clock security measures. The precinct’s allure extends beyond history; it boasts an eclectic retail landscape. From banks to street cafes, from renowned franchises like Nando’s and McDonald's to local gems, it offers a diverse shopping and dining experience. Moreover, it hosts specialized hair and beauty salons, catering to trendy and professional services, augmenting the area's appeal. With foot traffic surging to a staggering 250,000 daily visitors, the precinct provides an unrivaled opportunity for businesses. Its high visibility and accessibility serve as a prime location for enterprises to position themselves, benefiting from the constant flow of potential customers. In essence, the Gandhi Square Precinct amalgamates historical significance with contemporary vibrancy, offering a compelling blend of heritage, commerce, and modernity that continues to captivate all who engage with...

This is a great place to chill with friends or wait for someone if you know nothing about Johannesburg. It is always full of people, but this is where you have to remember the lessons from childhood.

Do not talk to strangers, hi is enough. Because once they act friendly it's easier for them to mug you and act like you are just friends playing any no one will care to help even if you scream.

It is safe to take pictures their, but after that you should quickly disappear. Because someone might seeing an opportunity to target you for your phone and valuable.

This is a safe place to catch a bus to everywhere in Johannesburg though and as far as that goes, you will have a great time if you only ask for directions from the drive before or after your trip.

You can bring your family to learn a few things about the wise man that was Mahatma Gandhi though. The square and the area represent peace, so stay peaceful and relaxed without flashing out too much.

It is also surrounded by amazing cafes, restaurants and coffee shops for a quick drink and bite. But you can still spend the whole day in and around the square, if you wanna admire the square from a balcony of a restuarant while you sip.

Take a bit of a walk around the square before and after your restuarant experience and you should be good to go, rather than spending most of your time within the...

This is an incredible place to chill with companions or hang tight for somebody on the off chance that you don't know anything about Johannesburg. It is in every case brimming with individuals, yet this is the place you need to stay woke.

Advice:

1.Try not to converse with outsiders, hello there is sufficient. Since once they act inviting it's less demanding for them to mug you and act like you are simply companions playing any nobody will mind to help regardless of whether you shout.

2.This is a protected place to get a transport to wherever in Johannesburg however and to the extent that goes, you will have an extraordinary time on the off chance that you request headings from the drive previously or after your outing.

3.It is likewise encompassed by astounding bistros, eateries and coffeehouses for a snappy beverage and nibble. Be that as it may, you can even now spend the entire day in and around the square, in the event that you wanna respect the square from a gallery of a restuarant...

One the of the City Centre's main transport terminuses, Gandhi Square is where most commuter Metro Bus services start and end. The square is named for Mahatma Gandhi who once worked here as a lawyer when the square was known as Government Square and was home to the city's law courts. Gandhi came to South Africa in 1893. Over time he became active in the politics of resistance, calling for Indian and Chinese people (classified as non-white) to burn their pass (identity) books. He was tried, convicted and sentenced for this. He left for India In 1914 having shaped and established his policy of passive resistance, 'Satyagraha'. His time as a lawyer in Johannesburg is remembered in a 2.5metre statue on the square. Unveiled on October 2 (Gandhi's birthday) in 2003, Tinka Christopher’s bronze statue a young Mohandas Gandhi as a lawyer, a gown over his suit, and a book beneath his arm as he looks ahead. Behind the Gandhi statue is the beautiful heritage building Somerset House which was restored in 2019

I enjoyed being here today. Reminiscent of the older days when I used to transit between buses. This place has developed quite well over the years. The presence of newer businesses, retail stores, banks, fast food and sit in restaurants, clubs nearby and chill area spots makes this places a convenient are to be in. With all this new developments, it has maintained its standard of cleanliness. There are public restrooms in the vicinity and a bus ticket office booth. ATMs are on site too. This place is close to many residential buildings and Carlton Centre is in walking distance.

The best time to visit this part of town is definitely on a Sunday when everything is at a stand still from the norm for Johannesburg so quiet so peaceful and so safe without having to worry about much. A lot of eating places to chill out in as well as a shopping mall near by which isn't bad at all for shopping. You also have a few banks around as well as a pharmacy just in case.......a few lovely hotels around and not to mentions a few pubs too lol lovely part of down town Johannesbwhich you just got to love XOXO
