Standard Bank Gallery

Recently the Standard Bank Gallery hosted an exhibition of the works of JH Pierneef: A Space for Landscape. Entering the gallery we were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who assisted us through the security procedures (scanning of bags) and directly us to the exhibition. The exhibition consisted of works by JH Pierneef throughout his lifetime, including the last painting which he was busy with before his passing. Many of the paintings were on loan from various galleries and private collections. The paintings were not arranged in chronological order, but in line with the different styles which he had used during the years as well as the dominant colours which featured in his works. Security personnel was present throughout the venue to ensure that patrons, not only kept a safe distance from the artworks but also assisted viewers with questions regarding the artist and other exhibitions planned for the gallery. Unfortunately the exhibition catalogues were sold out. As a consolation, the gallery was prepared to sell black & white photo copied versions of the catalogue (for a much reduced price).
