It is always sad when you have fond memories of a place and return after many years to find that the good you remembered has long gone.
This used to be a lovely park to walk the dogs in with a large stretch of grass and even a dog training group. The attached nature reserve used to be open only certain times of the year, but during the open season you could take your dogs up the Koppie provided they were on a lead and didn't disturb the wildlife.
Now there is little space left to walk dogs in the park, and the reserve doesn't allow dogs in. There are no facilities at all, and rather a lot of litter in the waterway. The lack of facilities isn't the end of the world with Lonehill Boulevard just around the corner, but I spotted only 1 other dog on the walk I tried. When you having a picnic stray dogs come crash your picnics and owners just watch-as though you should be happy. Read moreThe only reason I've taken stars off is there is a lot of dog poop and it seems to be getting worse. People want a lovely space to walk their dogs but neglect to clean up after them. The damage to the dam is another reason. This should never have happened as it should have been maintained by City Parks and clearly, it wasn't. Lonehill Residents Association has done a sterling job looking after the park and trying to combat the weeds in the dam, but the wall collapse was beyond their control.
