It is always sad when you have fond memories of a place and return after many years to find that the good you remembered has long gone.

This used to be a lovely park to walk the dogs in with a large stretch of grass and even a dog training group. The attached nature reserve used to be open only certain times of the year, but during the open season you could take your dogs up the Koppie provided they were on a lead and didn't disturb the wildlife.

Now there is little space left to walk dogs in the park, and the reserve doesn't allow dogs in. There are no facilities at all, and rather a lot of litter in the waterway. The lack of facilities isn't the end of the world with Lonehill Boulevard just around the corner, but I spotted only 1 other dog on the walk I tried. In truth I gave up, drove 16km down the road and went back...

Used to be really lovely. One of the most beautiful parks in jozi. However, Now lots of weeds in water. Over run by dogs not on leashes. When you having a picnic stray dogs come crash your picnics and owners just watch-as though you should be happy. Owners of dogs have No respect for other peoples space, who may be afraid of dogs or just not want dogs at there picnics. It is a park in which dogs are allowed - but the rules say on leashes. But they call it a dog park. It's not made for the exclusive use of dogs. Maybe dog owners should find another space where they can let there dogs run and not disturb others. Some dog Owners also don't always...

The only reason I've taken stars off is there is a lot of dog poop and it seems to be getting worse. People want a lovely space to walk their dogs but neglect to clean up after them. The damage to the dam is another reason. This should never have happened as it should have been maintained by City Parks and clearly, it wasn't. Lonehill Residents Association has done a sterling job looking after the park and trying to combat the weeds in the dam, but the wall collapse was beyond their control. Well done LRA for the secure and mostly clean...

Further update February 2023: Dam is now a muddy puddle! Dunno where the fish are living. Those that weren't washed downstream, that is. Water probably close to 2m below original levels after dam wall not fortified timeously. It took 2 months to try and save the dam wall. LRA and City of Johannesburg dropped the ball here big time! Update: the dam wall has been compromised and bridge is now closed. Spillway underwashed and pillars toppling. Dec 22. Kids, dogs, families. Even fishing. Great morning and evening place for walks.

One of the best kept parks. There is a beautiful pond, the grass and gardens are well kept and large signs asking people to obey the law and keep their dogs on a lead. It is conveniently situated next to the shopping centre, and next to the nature reserve where dogs are not allowed, they're only allowed in the park itself. There is even a loan-a-book-box which is rare in a place like Johannesburg.

A lovely small park serving the neighbourhood and surrounding areas. Great place to picnic , relax, read, walk the dogs. The Lobehill koppies are now closed for the winter, opening again in September. The Dam is unfortunately a shadow of its past state due to the break in the dam wall from heavy rains. Repairs should commence in time for it to be restored by summer.
