Time consuming - It starts extremely slow: really slow paced briefing, then a video, then each person gets a tablet and has to fill in three pages of information. Then of course gear needs to be put on. Then you need to get in a car and be driven to the ziplines. Two hours passed before even starting.
I'm sorry but... boring on multiple levels - The zipline itself didn't give me an adrenaline rush, since it doesn't feel like you're high up due to the tree carpet below you. It also didn't give me a "wow nature is so beautiful" moment because the ziplines were too short to look around much and there was very little attention paid to the actual nature. All in all for each zipline we got one little fact about a tree or something, because it was written on a little sign. Learning about the Tsitsikamma park trees, plants and animals is clearly not a priority here.
The guides that accompanied us were enthusiast and kind. That's good.
Afterwards we walked 600m uphil and waited 15 minutes again for a car to bring us back. When back, we had to fill in a form on a tablet again. Then we had to wait for a certification to be given.
Expensive and not worth the money - We paid 895 ZAR to zipline, which is in my opinion not worth it, but even worse: after having signed away your rights of ownership over pictures they take, you then get the opportunity to buy them, also for a hefty price. Must be noted: the guides are helpful and willing to take pictures with your phone as well so those are free.
SUMMARY: The guides were kind but it was just a boring, expensive, waste of time and it reminded me of a sports day with school i did once in my home country, so no need to do this when you're all the way in South Africa.
SIDENOTE: I can imagine that this would be really fun for younger kids though if you don't have much else planned that day. Ziplines seemed in good condition. Also perhaps very important to note: I felt safe the whole time, safety was taken care of very well. Im just not at all the right type of...
Read moreA unique experience near the Tsitikamma National Park. The tour operators are well trained and have the safety of their users as their number one priority.
After signing up for the tour, you undergo a mandatory 15 - 20 minutes safety briefing which covers all aspects for basic zip lining.
After the safety briefing is over, you are oufitted with the necessary equipment (including a helmet and friction-proof gloves). You are then driven a short distance to the actual start of the canopy tour.
Looking back at the canopy tour itself, you spend more time waiting to zip line and being hooked up/doen than actually ziplining. Note that the size of your group will affect the duration of your tour (bigger group = longer waiting time).
Although the tour does market itself as being educational, I was a bit disappointed that our guides did not share any more knowledge about the Tsitikamma area.
Due to the fact that the tour starts at a high point within the forest, the tour ends at a lower elevation which then requires a short 600 meter walk back up to the point where you are picked up by the safari vehicle to be taken back to the Tour Offices.
Also note that there is a post-tour meal included within the admission/tour fee. However, the food was disappointing; I had the chicken salad (the only halaal meal option) and the chicken was cold and the salad was tasteless and uninspired. I think it would be a good idea if the Tour Operator provided the option to skip the meal, as it spoiled my appetite afterwards.
The Safety Officer, Worsie, and the Tour Guide for our 2nd leg of the tour, Sibusiso, were extremely friendly, welcoming and pleasant. I don't think I will ever forget Worsie's shouts of "aweh!" signalling that you were ready to go ahead...
Read moreI was looking for a shop to buy food, saw the Offices, and decided to see costs so i could consider doing the tour at another time.
friendly guy comes within minutes to let me know a tour was ready to do the "talk" in a couple minutes before heading out. Not one for spur of moment purchases but this has been on my mind i will do while on holiday.. i went for it.
Lovely young German couple, Family of four from Australia (Husban ex SA Citizen) and then myself plus two guides.
Friendly guides, one person had decided after the third platform to go back to the offices, great respect to her for doing four platforms even as a Tandem. the fact she put her foot onto the first platform was an accomplishment of note. If you ever read this.. you have my respect!!!
Your daughter (approx 9??) was having the best time and her laughter/giggles and entusiasm had everyone enjoying their time even more.
respect to the guide for staying with the slowest on the walk out the valley till the truck and back to office.
Good that they supplied bottle water per person for hydration while...
