The Village Inn is such a beautiful and relaxed place. We wanted to extend our holiday and the Tsitsikamma was on our way back home, so a few nights beforehand we looked online and found the only place with a room left in the area, and that's how we came to stay at The Village Inn. The location is central and there are many hiking spots and activities for the adventurous in the area. The staff were absolutely lovely and always ready to assist. The buffet breakfast was also very filling and delicious.
The rooms are nice and has everything you need, except for double adaptors - we had to go buy one at the general store across the road. Our bed was comfortable and we got two nights of peaceful sleep. Although on one of our mornings, 2 baboons came into our room and scoured around and stole all our snacks 😂😂😂 they posed no risk to us, but it was super petrifying and hilarious at the same time. We never got a warning from the establishment, so a warning might have been nice as we would have kept our windows closed. The space also has various restaurants on their property which makes deciding where to eat easy for the lazy traveler. From the 60's diner, Marilyn's, to the De Oude Martha, to the Hunters Pub, there is something for everyone.
There is a slave bell on the property, and every now and again a child stands on their tippy toes and rings it without knowing the history of what that bell means. It is a bit jarring, especially when you realise that most slave bells in South Africa still exist on previous plantations. Overall, the experience was lovely and if we were to come back to the Tsitsikamma I'd consider coming...
Read moreWe booked the awesome foursome deal from the Tsitsikamma Village Inn, what a great package, such value for money The Tsitsikamma Village Inn, is centrally located and is walking distance to many of the things offered in the town. The staff at the Tsitsikamma Village Inn are exceptional, very helpful and friendly. It was quite cold the days we were there but the room is well equipped with aircon/ heat, electric blankets and additional throws if needed Room 8 is spacious and very clean, the linen and towels are of a good quality. My only issue was the shower head - supposed to be one of those water saving unit - but is quite annoying. The buildings and landscape are well maintained - (what you see in the pictures is what you get) They offer free wifi, that is quite strong, however there TV channel selection is abit sad - but to be fair, TV isn't a priority when you are such a beautiful outdoorsy place. The restaurant at the inn is one of the places that has the most variety on the menu, has one of the better wine selections and is opened later compared to many of the other places, food tastes good and the portions are are reasonable. Activities included in the deal are great, bookings are easy, are safe, well organized with friendly staff - both are highly recommend. Tsitsikamma is a must...
Read moreI can honestly say that the only downside to our stay was not having DSTV while the wi-fi was so slow that had to use my own data to connect to the internet. In all other respects, the Village Inn is outstanding. Large comfortable rooms with en-suite shower and separate bath -both with almost instantly available hot water. Also wonderful friendly and willing staff.
One of the Inn’s greatest positive attributes was the food served either in the dining room or the atmospheric bar (if you don’t mind the stuffed animals on the walls - which we don’t). Both venues serve the same menu. The food is simple but very well prepared. I had the tasty pork ribs on the first evening and my wife had the lamb curry (actually more likely mutton curry but that is as it should be). On her recommendation I had the curry on the second evening and was not disappointed. It was even better than the pork ribs. The food and wines are also great value and there is a decent wine list.
Another very strong point is the breakfast buffet with its wide assortment of generous dishes. The hotel clearly has an excellent bakery. I can fully understand why the Inn is famous for these breakfasts.
All in all, a great two nights. Just a pity about the DSTV and the poor wi-fi. At over R2k a night (January 2024) this should not...
