My visit to the Shell museum was a spur of the moment but unforgettable event. The museum was revamped recently and is a little hidden Gem in Jeffrey's bay. They have a remarkable & world standard shell exhibition with interesting and important facts & information on the hundreds of shells on display. The shells are in a flawless state of preservation in glass cabinets. The curators are knowledgeable and there are a few books on sale about shells, shipwrecks off the coast of the Eastern Cape and on the History of Jeffrey's Bay. The museum is air conditioned and very clean. The entry fee whick contributes to the museum's upkeep is also very fair. Truly a remarkable but overlooked Gem in the heart of...

The lady who runs the museum was absolutely professional, Very knowledgeable and so helpful. She was available at all times and passionate about sharing her vast knowledge of the museum and displays. There are shells from Jeffrey's Bay and around the world in vast numbers and so beautiful. A must see for anyone who appreciates the ocean and...

What a Gem in Jeffreys Bay!

We had the most incredible experience visiting the J-Bay Shell Museum. Marieta was absolutely brilliant — her passion and knowledge brought the entire collection to life. She didn’t just show us shells; she told stories that made each one unforgettable. We learned so much about the ocean, shell species, and local history — things we never even knew we didn’t know!

Whether you’re a curious traveler, a nature enthusiast, or just looking for something different to do in Jeffreys Bay, this museum is a must-visit. Marieta’s storytelling is the real treasure here. Highly...

The museum offers more than you would expect. When you enter the building you are greated by a friendly person at reception. Once you have paid you meager entrance fee you have two options. One is a short history of the people and ships of the region. The other is the shell museum itself. Entering the main hall you will be stunned by the shear number of different shells of various sizes, shapes, colours and textures. A visit to this museum will make you realise what true bounty the ocean has to offer and what you can find if you are willing to explore.

The micro shell collection being the only one in sa is amazing to see really is! Staff really friendly , just super impressed , really cheap only R10 adults and R5 kids. Definitely need to stop in when in jbay at least once! And do t forget to take your complementary shell on the way out ! ;)

The Jeffrey's Bay Shell Museum is definitely worth a stop. We drove up from St Francis Bay to visit the museum and we were not disappointed. Marietha showed us around and shared information with much enthusiasm. Her passion for the shells is amazing! There is a small entrance fee of R20/adult and R5/child. They also have a few items for sale to help raise funds.
