I really want to love this place but I have been twice now and both times were just average. The first time was last month and I was so excited to get some oysters after hearing that this was the place in Jbay to get them... the were out, disappointed but had apps and dinner anyway. Springbok carpaccio is really nice. I had the fish special and it was pretty nice, mash potatoes were excellent. Girlfriend had the Asian style calamari and it was ok, a bit too much sauce and too much going on, on the plate. Simpler and it would be much better. Drinks/ wine were nice. Last night I was excited because they had oysters. I assumed they were fresh because it is a high end restaurant and I had heard it was the spot for oysters. I love oysters and have been to several high end oyster bars in the states. So I order 18 traditional and 2 New Orleans style. As soon as I tasted the first one I knew they were frozen. I went from thrilled to disappointed in one oyster. My girlfriend who is new to oysters but does enjoy fresh ones said they had no flavor and didn't taste salty at all. I told her they had to be frozen and/ or rinsed. The waiter confirmed they were frozen. Really disappointing for a place of this caliber. I don't know if the oysters here are always frozen or what. I really wish the would tell their wait staff to tell people the oysters are frozen when someone orders them. I had 20! frozen tasteless oysters... so DISAPPOINTED. I will say that the mains were nice as well as the creme brule. The location could not be better, very nice place but after have no oysters the first time and 20 frozens the 2nd, it has really put me off of...
Read moreThe travel tourism and hospitality industry is worth 7 trillion dollars (USD) After visiting South Africa. Port Edward, Port St. John's, Port Alfred need I go on! Its really sad such beauty so much potential. I repeat so much beauty, unspoiled, unpolluted. Adam & Eve would be jealous. The restaurants & resorts (There are exceptions) My point here is I was not expecting 3 star Michelin restaurants. To my shock the youngsters those working/managing hotels/restaurants are a disgrace. Until I arrived at this little place on the beach front in Jeffery's Bay. Young people who went the extra mile extra 100 miles. Not commercial, no dress code no fuss. 100% The Calamari great the service exceptional internet automatically connected. If even 20% of this attitude could be spread 80% of the problems in South Africa would disappear! 5 stars highly recommend. Casual, trendy, quite, unpretentious. Not sure about evenings or bookings. During the day almost on the beach as alfresco/umbrellas or indoors. Getting a takeout and spending the afternoon here. I know I cannot write to save my life check out the photos...
Read moreWe reserved our table earlier the day for dinner at 8pm. We were duly seated and provided with menus. Please note: we did not seat ourselves, despite the the best attempt by the restaurant's front end person to create the impression that we did. We waited for 25 minutes and complained. Whilst doing so, the response by the restaurant's front end person to another patron without a reservation was: "OK that's fine, you can have their table." Really? I am rather disappointed. I wish I could rather have written about a great food experience. Alas, the privilege was not afforded to me and my family. Upon leaving the major concern was who seated us...as if that could make up for the extremely poor treatment we received and undo the highly unprofessional attendance to our complaint. The restaurant was rather full and my family and I felt rather embarassed. Perhaps we were just unlucky. Perhaps service and food is usually great. Perhaps...but be assured, I will never spentd a single cent at your...
