Read moreThis is a blue flag beach hence it is safe and clean and managed by private security who ensure the rules are respected. There are lifeguards but is SA the lifeguards protect and manage a very small area unlike in other countries.
The main issue with this beach is that you have to park on the road with very limited parking. Then you have to walk down a steep flight of stairs and a pathway to the beach. This walk is downhill and about 500m - 750m.
The beach is nice, natural tidal pools but no shade hence it is important to bring your own shade cover, camping chairs, etc.
The toilets are not well maintained and quite dirty. Bring your own wet wipes and toilet paper.
The sea itself is quite rough so be careful as it is not a beach to easily swim in. The currents are quite strong.
The natural tidal pool is very nice and quite large. Ideal for kids of all ages.

Read more🏝Hello Thompsons Bay, Ballito / Salt Rock KZN, only 30 minutes from Durban you will find this tropical paradise. Charlie's Tidal pool is full of fish you'd expect to see on a tropical island (the torquoise one is a Wrasse), most enchanting for Wolfie. The walk through the Hole in the Wall is exhilarating, the little slippery cliff path even more so at high tide.
The tiny and perfectly clean bay was almost deserted allowing Wolfie endless zoomies, and claimed high atop overlooking the sole fisherman. The pathway down is guarded by Blue Security, inspecting all bags for alcohol and other illegal items; this makes Thompsons Bay very safe and clean.
