Me and my fiancé were excited to book accommodation with Africamps. We booked the accommodation 3 months in advance and we're traveling from the Netherlands.||On our arrival we were shocked to find that there was no one to receive us. The place was in chaos and we were standing outside in the rain for 40min waiting for our rooms to be made ready (which should have been ready by then). ||After the wait we had learned that an electrical transformer had blown. Which meant that there was no electricity or running water at the units as these units are provided water using electrical pumps. ||They assured us it would be fixed within a few hours, but we decided to cancel the booking and move on as it was very risky to stay over not knowing if/when we will have electricity and running water. ||A couple days later we had learned that it took them 36 hours to get electricity and running water again. ||We had negotiated with them and afterwards got the website we had booked through also to try and negotiate. They ourtright refused both negotiations. It is absolutely ridiculous that they expected us to live in a place that does not have access to basic human rights (electricity and running water). ||I would not recommend using them at all, ESPECIALLY NOT if you are traveling from abroad. YOU WILL BE SEVERELY DISSAPOINTED. They do not care that we traveled all the way from the Netherlands and tried to give us "credit" for booking another stay with them. I tried to explain to them it is not an option as it costs us thousands of euros to book a trip to South Africa, but they did not care at all. ||The worst service I have had with an accommodation ever. They took thousands of Rands from me and my fiancé and would not even negotiate for a partial refund. ||They are clearly not equipped to deal with any form of emergency and I will not be returning to them. ||And to think we were thinking of booking our wedding on their premises (Pat Busch). ||Steer clear from...

On our arrival we were shocked to find that there was no one to receive us.

The worst service I have had with an accommodation ever. They took thousands of Rands from me and my fiancé and would not even negotiate for a partial refund.

And to think we were thinking of booking our wedding on their premises (Pat Busch).

Read moreI've stayed in three Africamps and this was by far the best. The tent and amenities are the same (except there was no hot bath at this one), but of course each place is very different. The tents are nestled in the "bush" or slightly above, and this gives a feeling of intimacy and privacy. There weren't many people when we stayed, so it was very quiet (I guess it might be a bit noisier at the height of the holiday season) and we quickly moved from enjoying the pool to the dam. We just spent hours and hours there with the kids, it was magical. We hired an oar for the day which helped us to used the boats, the damn is quite small but it was nice to move around. The views are amazing and I'm sure the walks are lovely if you have the energy! I had expected there to be a hot tub, which I thought came with all Africamps, and there are two tents with hot tubs but my fault for not paying closer attention. However, with the dam who needs the hot tub! We loved our tent, number 4, and I think 3-5 tents and 8 onwards are the best bets (from 8 they are higher - good views, not necessarily better though). In terms of amenities, I do think they could provide one free bag of firewood, and also just be more generous with additional dishtowels, bowls and serving plates - it's all very basic and doesn't really meet the needs of 5 people when staying, so bring some extras when going is my advice, if you can. The little shop is useful and the site feels safe. On a very different topic - it felt striking to me from the brochure that there appears little diversity in the ownership of property of the farms signing partnerships with Africamps, an interesting insight into...
