Distance by car from Benoni to Harties Hike was about 1:05mins. There's some road works so when you get to the place be careful to listen to Google and turn right at the shops. Lots if secure parking . We were greeted by Max and Louise. wow their friendliness is overwhelming and very a informative pre hike briefing coupled with Max's jokes. You can scan your map on your phone or follow the markers on the trial which is really well marked out. the 8 km was for us a intermediate hike, not difficult.,unless you struggle to climb some Huge rocks. The trail isn't daunting at all for those who struggle with highs..In other words it not at the edge of any mountains.

Some climbing after the 3 km mark ,unless you want to return back to base you would have covered 6 km. continue on to 8 km where eventually at a point in the downhill was two sign boards showing 10km or 8km .We hadn't seen any animals but we're hoping to see some Baboons ,Warthogs or Antelope as per Max briefing.

After the we went on to have a sandwich at the Restaurant close by. we waited awhile for our sandwich as it was very busy. the sandwich wasn't too bad and the home made chips were very tasty and nicely done. There seems to be a beer fest and a small market with odds and ends as well as food stalls. It was interesting to see what others were up too that side of Northwest .

The only thing we didn't like was two dogs walked freely in and out the restaurant.Im not sure if they were with their owners ,but they didn't sit down or stay so that was good. If you eating food and have animals walking around that isn't good as dogs give off a revolting smells.. otherwise we wil be back for another hike and a...

The Harties River Hiking Trail offers three route options: 6 km, 8 km, and 10 km. The gates open at 07:00, and 30 minutes later, an induction led by the charismatic and friendly Max takes place. Overlooking the tranquil river with birds flying together, participants enjoy a cup of coffee and biscuits during this informative session. After the briefing and any questions are answered, hikers are ready to start their trek.

The trail begins on a wide road along the river, where hikers can enjoy the sight and sound of singing birds. At the 3 km mark, there's a viewpoint offering a picturesque view of the river and a charming neighborhood. Continuing along the trail, hikers are greeted by stunning views of Hartebeespoort Dam and the mountain range behind them—a perfect spot for a photo break.

The trail then climbs up the mountain, transitioning to rough terrain. While the ascent can be breath-taking in more ways than one, the views behind make it worthwhile. At the mountain summit, the trail flattens out, providing a brief respite before more climbs and descents. The route includes three additional peaks before descending into a small forest, offering a cool, shaded path by a small river—especially refreshing on a sunny day, as the rest of the trail lacks shade.

The Harties River Hiking Trail features striking rocks and diverse plant species, including the national flower, the protea. The trail is popular but never overcrowded, thanks to the staggered start times from the initial...

Now! here is really a fantastic and well organised Adventure Organisation / Company called "Mogi Adventures", who will host you while you can enjoy and spend some quality time with your family, friends, more than friends, corporate acquaintances, team building excursions, etc. out in the open air / outdoors environment of Harbeespoort Dam / Broederstroom (Crocodile River Region) ""Don't Worry No Crocs"". and, where your host "MAX who is a very entertaining and jovial type of guy will welcome and greet you and give you, your do's and don'ts. But what I can assure you, he is very professional, committed and very serious about ensuring that what he offers and provedes to you and those with you, will be well worth the trip to this establishment and where I can assure you, you will want to return.

Regarding the hiking trails and more! he is very committed too, ensuring safety remains a priority. The environment and the hosting facility (start and end) facilities are awesome and with its location next to the Croc river and easy access to get there. This is definitely an experience for those of you who like the outdoors, fresh air, hiking and adventure. This is also definitely a fantastic facility for you and others, where you can keep fit and get some exercise in and stay healthy , whether you be young or a little more mature. (You Know What I Mean). So from my side I would recommend you phone them and book your pleasant day in an awesome...

This is a great hiking trail, the extra star is because of the owners. I like the views, some parts feel like you're overlooking houses in the French Riviera while others have an east Asian feel. Anyway, make sure you get there on time because they lock the gates at 9am, apparently for the safety of our vehicles. The restaurant serves decent food however you need to book. On that note, you can't just pitch up to the trail as well, you need to book, I booked around 12 midnight a few hours before the hike and it was not an issue. Some parts of the trail are slippery so make sure you have proper hiking sneakers. I wish the beginning of the trail was much closer to the river than the signs show as there is a secondary trail which is seemingly reserved for bikes. It is a great trail and I will recommend the 8 or 10 km to anyone that is moderately fit, first timers must stick to the 6km trail. Next time I will probably run the trail, I think that is absolutely doable. I enjoyed myself. I give it 4.5 stars. All first timers need to sit in for a briefing that is done every 30minutes.
