This place has been my favorite since my primary school days since it offered untempered nature experience with the addition of convenience and safety. It is a perfect place for those seeking natural forest ambience with safety. I just love this place, It offers a load of fresh air and temperature regardless of weather, a very nice feeling you have to feel atleast twice a year.. the trail although short, is a perfect fit for solo, duo or family outing activity, couoled with the safety and peace it brings with it. The place is seldom full, and even when it is full, the ambience is just peaceful and everyone seems to get the memo and just be peaceful. I can say the sounds of birds, flowing waters and wind blowing over the trees does a role to further soothen the environment's ambience and harmony, though one has to take bote that along the fences or near them especially at South and east, you may fall victim of traffic noise but gojng north near the trail/hike area, it is significantly reduced to none and relaxation is assured, but I am not discouraging the places near the fence as they are sometimes a better spot for picnic especially for big events, inquire with park managers for a spot! One can alternatively use Alexandra park for events or anything which supports loud music or activities, as that one is better suited for such and no conservatives are disturbed or shook!
My experience there has been for many years spanning from young ages to present time and have thus got the grasp of what usually works and does not, and for such places its better to come with the intent to enjoy amd not cause harm such as littering, damaging of inventory and loitering.
Loads of events which support and appreciate plaves like that botanical conservatory such as Happy Earth which is given a day or more in celebration of earth and what it offers and how people can help conserve what it offers.
I hope you enjoy this place as much as I do,...
Read moreI love this place. If you're a Pmb resident you'd know this garden, its well established and always clean. The grounds are huge and well maintained and theres also some educational material for kids and a nursery. You could also do the arboreal obstacle course which I think starts from about R50 pp for the basic level. Theres tons of place for picnics, yoga, meditation or exercising. Theres also a few water features, a forest light hiking path and a little hall for venue hire. The restaurant tends to open and close in its own times. Theres also a jungle gym in the front for kids. Walk down the oak tree path and make sure you climb up and ring that old bell, it sounds amazing. Toilets are generally very clean. You could jog here, dogs must be on leashes. Keep an eye out for bird life, ducks, large lizards, and all sorts of other animals. I swear once I saw a baby croc paddling out of the stream, probably from the Duzi but it could have also been a...
Read moreVisited the Botanical Gardens Pietermaritzburg in December 2023. Beautiful place as we have remembered it to be. The highlight here was the Acrobranching for the family and everyone had a great time therefore the rating.
I do feel that the entrance fee of R50 per adult was a bit steep especially that we were not able to braai at the picnic area as there were other rowdy people who were consuming alcohol next to us. We felt very uncomfortable and left and was unable to have our picnic as planned. There was also animals mess in that same area which attracted alot of flies which was completely unbearable.
I feel for price one has to pay to enter better management and constant upkeep of the place...
