This is an exquisite nature walk which borders the coast, easy for the kids and even Grandma, the sandy trail begins at the parking lot on Marine Drive with an easy slope down to the waters edge and before you know it, you're on the beach watching waves break ever so gently against the rocks(low tide) , some beautiful little pools for snorkeling and an abundance of marine life, next time I'll take my water housing and snap a few shots under the surface. I'd recommend this for the folk who are suffering from "beach withdrawal symptoms", it's a nature walk, and there are no po-po on patrol, which is cool, as a security measure, take a large breed dog along for the walk or go in a group, one never knows, always be vigilant. I was alone on the trail for over an hour, pure bliss.... With my hound of course, so no issues. Enjoy the stroll and if you are going to picnic, please take your refuse with, let's leave nature as we found it, stay safe and...
Read moreSo we started our hike by the board with the map. It was a beautiful sunny day.
Firstly, we decided to keep to the left of the trail along the beach. Please be aware that the trail is not well marked. I really think that this trail can benefit from a few more markers along the way because over the rocks, the path disappears.
Anyways, just keep going until you see the towering dunes of Sardinia Bay. It's a really gorgeous beach. 😍 (Not really recommended for swimming though.) We were walking slow and it took us just over an hour to walk just under 4Ks.
I noticed that there were a lot of dogs on the trail with their owners especially in the beginning. Unfortunately, I saw some trash (plastic bottles, discarded fishing nets) along the way and on the beach which is really disheartening so please don't litter. 💔😢
Overall the beautiful views of the ocean and sounds of the waves makes this, a must do hike. Would definitely...
Read moreGreat trail. Starts at the Skoenmakerskop cannon in Marine Drive.
Trail length varies from 5km to 8km per leg (meaning a total of 10 - 16 km total). You are, of course, free to vary it and turn around whenever you feel like it... do what you want.
Time Duration varies between 2 - 4 hours (average).
Difficulty, I would rate it as easy.
Elevation is minimal.
Though it is almost a straight shot, there are a few opportunities to take side paths and loop it around for a circular trail experience. The trail has remarkable beauty, but the infrastructure seems to have deteriorated due to a lack of maintenance.
Important to remember, this trail is part of the Nature Preserve, and thus, fauna and flora should not be disturbed.
Nearby is a great restaurant, the Sacramento. They serve a variety of...
