What an amazing back story to this place, absolutely loved it….if you are looking for peace and tranquillity, with a spiritual side to it…then this is the place to visit. Set alongside the lekker little reptile and nature park is a small little sanctuary in honor of the Hindu Mountain God, Lord Shiva. There are murti’s for Hanuman, Gauri Ma and Lord Shiva’s Ling that one can pray and offer prasad to. This section of the mountain is very relaxing and peaceful, and a positive calming energies permeates the grounds. While you are here, please ensure you pay a visit to the reptile park and support the team that ensures that the area is clean, tidy and well kept. This is definitely a stopping spot for any Hindu that is visiting this side of the Drakensberg. If you want to offer milk, fruit and water – please ensure you purchase on your way here, there is no shops close to this venue for you to obtain this. Please be respectful, no shoes in the prayer area and please try to keep the noise of chanting and bhajans at a tolerable level. The high hills carry noise, and there are other resorts, animal sanctuaries and farms just below the area that are affected by it. Also they do have a charity box, that you can donate to keep the area clean, tidy and ongoing for future generations to behold. It is...
Read moreSurely one of the best attractions in the Berg. Corneel is extremely knowledgeable on all the animals in his care and you can see that a lot of effort is made to properly care for these animals. He was also extremely accommodating to us and we are really grateful.
You definitely need to book in advance. They are usually closed on Mondays and Tuesdays as many of the animals, especially the snakes are fed on a Sunday, and need at least 2 - 3 days to process their meals. Interaction with all sorts of critters is guaranteed, and really an amazing experience. Thumbs up to these guys for actually breeding certain species and then releasing them into the wild.
It is also worth mentioning that small children below 5 years old are not allowed. This is not because they guys are being spiteful, but they have learnt that young children are not always predictable in their reactions and can therefore place themselves in danger.
This is an absolute must on your berg bucket list. You are sure to walk out amazed and pleased with a worthwhile experience. Thank you Corneel for going so far out of your way to accommodate us. We will certainly support you every single time we visit this beautiful part of the world, with or...
