This was an unforgettable experience that is well worth the R150 entry fee. The show is usually around 10:30 in the morning, weather permissible. You get to see some amazing raptors that have been rescued by the team over the years. We saw various types of eagles, vultures, owls and falcons. The team are learned and have spent a considerable amount of time rehabilitating and grooming the raptors that have found Falcon Ridge as their home. We also learned about how birds of prey have been used by hunters for over 4000 years, and the role that dogs have played along with birds over the years. We got to see a Peregrine falcon in full action, catching thermals, hovering over a point and then darting done from a high elevation to catch a prey at super speed….was phenomenal. The Fish eagle was also amazing to watch and hear, the sound you are familiar with from the Fish Eagle Brandy advertisements is pretty much what you will get to hear. It is just sad to learn that the poor Fish eagle things it is more human than bird, due to it living in captivity for such a long time. This was really an amazing experience and we even got to learn why the humble old Owl is perceived as the bringer of doom in some cultures. What was unbelievable was watching and hearing this bird in flight, for it’s size and stature this bird is pretty silent in flight – absolutely amazing experience, well...

Near the entrance is a zoo like area, where you can see these beautiful birds.
Learnt so many facts about the reason these birds look the way they do and fly the way they fly.
We had an owl fly arm distance away from the crowd sitting in the second last row from the back where we happened to be sitting. It glides so swiftly and silently through the air.
We witnessed the flight habits and techniques used to capture their prey of Eagles, vultures, owls and falcons.
Few birds are kept at the back which are patting distance away from you (uncaged but tied), this way you can have a look at them eye to eye. What an amazing feeling
I was taken back by being so up close with these majestic birds of prey.
Wouldn't mind going...
Read moreI was captivated for the entire 1 hour show. Professional and relaxed at the same time. Weather was perfect and the information I learnt was beyond my expectations. To the fools writing bad reviews who don't understand weather permits shows I have no words but just "use your head" before attending, obviously bad weather means the birds wont have favorable conditions . These are birds of prey, not showbiz performers. People who also mock the cage sizes, these birds don't fly in cages, they fly in the open so cages are roosting areas to rest for shade and shelter from rain and these birds get taking out for long flights regularly. Most rehabilitated eagles are often released even. I take my hat off to this family for keeping a niche passion alive in today's economy. Will come back every year and offer support. All the best to...
