Stayed in their guest houses over the Christmas period. The houses are well equipped and neat, built-in braai on the back stoep facing the mountain. There are plenty of walking and hiking trails around, accessible from the houses. The views are great and look over the nearby mountains and farming. It's a short drive into Stanford and not far from either Hermanus or Gansbaai. Far enough away that it is superbly quiet. Plenty of natural Fynbos surround the sites with good variety of birds. Can recommend the short hike up to the cave paintings. Very pleasant stay overall. The access road is rough and most regular cars will manage, but low/sports cars may suffer, as well as low profile tyres. Read moreMy family and I were lucky enough to stay at Phillipskop for the Easter weekend. It was a beautiful, tranquil and restful 4 days. We bonded by hiking the trails and cycling the mountain roads. We didn't miss the TV at all and the indoor fireplace was a lovely way to keep warm during our nighttime chats. It gets windy at times, so have a windbreaker type jacket for the walks and outside coffee breaks. The sliding glass doors all around enabled us to wake up and admire the view from our beds each morning :) All in all, well worth the (reasonable) price....
Read moreWe were spending a few days in Stanford and wanted to hike and Phillipskop was recommended to us. This was the day before the official launch of the rock art found in a cave on the reserve. We had a splendid hike to the Waterfall and a sneak preview of the rock art in the nearby cave - what a treat - and across the saddle passing the rock stacks on the way. We were bowled over by the diversity of the flora, efforts to remove alien vegetation and the easy to follow paths. It was a lovely walk with a bit of uphill and well worth...
