The University was first established for black students only ,of the Northern Sotho (now Sepedi), Venda and Tsonga speaking people during, the Apartheid era. Now after the Apartheid era had ended, South Africa was and still is declared a democratic state, hence everyone had a, freedom of choice to choose where they want to study. The university of Limpopo caters for international students, Disabled students and people of all races.

The unversity have three faculties i.e. Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental sciences, Faculty of Management and Law, and Faculty of Humanities.

I have visited sites around Gauteng and Limpopo. I have seen facilities that are dilapidated and vandalised, public facilities that have been neglected to the bone in many other institutions and public facilities in my province-Limpopo. But when I looked around my former University, I saw a habitat that shines through old memories! There new developments in the precinct but the facilities have been well cared for.
