We completed one of the overnight hike trails available at the reserve. The days were beautiful and the hike challenging. Especially from the Avon More Hut to the Explorer Hut. You follow the river as you cover relatively tough terrain. It is really beautiful.
Only 3 stars as the camps are clean but in disrepair. It feels neglected. At the explorer camp there used to be a shower now there is not even a bucket shower. Also the water ran out while we were at the explorer which could be very inconvenient if you had to refill. The can at least make sure that the tanks are full. Then at Avon more there were no kettle for making coffee. We had to improvise. Previous years there were pots and kettles so we did not pack those. Bucket shower was working at least. I am however glad that the mattresses have received new covers. Last time they were really gross.
All in all a wonderful experience, will most definitely return. However it would have been 5 star had the camps been in...
Read moreThe hiking trail is beautiful the 3 starts is for the beautiful view, waterfall and rocks 🪨. The trail is not challenging but that also depends on your fitness level. If you are a beginner you will find it very difficult. If you are a beginner go for 5km. The trail doesn't have tree shade it's sun all the way make sure to carry your sun hat and a lot of water. If you are hiking on a sunny day.
The trail is not well marked We wanted to hike 19 km's we couldn't find the trail , spent 1hour looking for the trail we ended up doing 12km also the 12km was a problem. Their phone number on their website doesn't go though. Which is not good what if someone get injured while hiking or get lost how will you know please provide the phone number that people can use.
Please work on your marking. We didn't receive a map or someone to tell us about the trail. We paid at the gate and had to drive in that was 1km or 2km to the parking. We did not see the...
Read moreThe place is big so we didn't get to explore it like we wanted. We were there for a picnic and a picnic we had. The picnic area has nice braaing spot, a siting spot/area and it's not far from the backpackers/Campers area. Oh yeah you can camp.
There's a lot going on there but I was disappointed that they don't have a help desk. Once you get into the reserve you're given a map and you're on your own, literally... You can hike, cycle, camp(as mentioned above) and simply enjoy nature's serenity. Outdoor lovers, this is worth checking out for sure....
What stood out for me is that, there's no network reception. You can literally be cut off everyone, everything and endure in...
