Recap Franschhoek Wine Valley offers incredible settings and Anthonij Rupert Wine Farm dwells right in the middle of it. The old Dutchie style farmhouse highly spotted on reviews blatantly plays the perfect stage just for tastings and right in front of a breathtaking soft-as-butter grass pitch. Being that said, behind the scenes there’s alot of hard work and industrial, the luxurious and chic image more a touristy postcard. Browsing reviews on here stumble in a ton of self-styled ‘local guides’ alias google-branded-know-it-all-content-producers who get free tastings and a bunch of perks in exchange of incredible reviews and improvised photo shoots.
Story Booked our tasting and it’s not a minus having to book as it makes the full experience more exclusive and focused on the few clients admitted per day. We knew their MCCs L’Ormarins and decided to go with the full range of bubbly and white / red / rosé wines to not leave stones unturned. Could only pair tasting with biltong - produced within the estate turned reaaaally top surprise & high quality - and chips. Regrettably all the food menu but the aforementioned was unavailable (thumbs down). Wines are not bad but not too good frankly. Rosé better skipping it. Bubbly their best options although don’t impress and come with scarce perlage. We did not have enough time to try / buy the Terra del Capo range which is for sale only in different premises within the wine farm. Also wanted to make provisions of biltong, was not possible likewise.
Debrief The ‘wine farm’ is not there, meaning clients don’t see it, don’t have the feel of being in a wine farm. It’s more a deli-farmhouse, where sipping wines in tranquility surrounded by nature. Ultimately, the customer exp pays back the trip although wines do not impress enough to...

From the moment you arrive, you are greeted by the estate’s elegant, old-world architecture, which exudes charm and sophistication. The grounds are impeccably maintained, with lush green lawns, mature trees, and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains—creating a truly serene and picturesque setting that makes your wine tasting experience even more enjoyable.
The wines themselves are outstanding. Each sip reflects the passion and expertise of the winemakers, offering a delightful balance of flavors that is both complex and approachable. It’s clear that great care goes into every bottle, making it a must-visit for wine lovers. During our tasting, we found the staff to be knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive, further enhancing the overall experience.
The only minor hiccup during our visit was a temporary power outage, which made card payments a bit challenging. While it caused a brief delay, the staff handled the situation as best they could. In hindsight, a simple reassurance that we could leave without paying immediately would have been ideal—but honestly, this small inconvenience does not take away from what is otherwise a fantastic visit.
Overall, Anthonij Rupert Wine Farm offers a combination of world-class wines, breathtaking scenery, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you are a seasoned wine enthusiast or simply looking for a beautiful place to enjoy a tasting, this estate is highly recommended. It’s an experience that engages all your senses, and one that will leave you with lasting memories of both the wine and the stunning South...
Read moreThis has to surely be one of the most unassuming restaurants I've visited. Set back from the bustle of the busy main road taking visitors into the town of Franschoek, lies the Wine Estate of Antonij Rupert. Once you pass the security gate you are greeted with a carpet of lush green grass that seems to go on forever...this is framed by stone buildings that could take your imagination to another level. Once we parked, and headed to the entrance of the building one could not but notice the front door...(obviously clad with history) and spiking an excitement of "what lay beyond it" we entered. We we greeted by very friendly staff members, and each received a generous "complimentary" drink, before heading up to the first level where we were booked for our wine tasting session....what an enjoyable experience, if you are booking their tapas lunch...please do yourself the favour and book the wine tasting as well. After our wine tasting we headed down to the restaurant...the setting was delightful....it was notably upmarket, yet comfortable with a backdrop of sheer glass...giving you the feeling that you were looking into the heart of where the wine is produced, and bottled. The food was outstanding ( tapas dishes), and the wine was excellent....and the setting was perfect. Before we knew it, we had been there for 3 hours...time flies when the experience is enjoyable. I highly recommend this venue, you will not be disappointed. After eating you can roam through their little gift shop, their gifts are...
