Villiera is one of my favourite wine estates to visit as they have a nice variety of wines including some MCCs (Method Cap Classique) as well as some French wines. What makes their wines even better is the range in price, from budget friendly to premium, with all options being of a high quality. We decided to take some friends for a tasting as they had never been and we all enjoyed it. What I love about their tasting options is the versatility they provide as each person will find something that they like. The farm itself is also very beautiful and as they have inside as well as outside seating it is a perfect place to visit during any season. The staff member who welcomed us made it a bit awkward by recommending that all of us taste the same wines (although we were only 4 people) to make their life easier, however Lihle who actually handled our tasting in the end allowed us to taste whichever wine we wanted which we preferred. He was also very informative and friendly. We ended up taking some of their delicious wines home to share with others and will definitely come back when we...
Read moreNot to bad not too good. I mean, starting from location to wines incl. but not limited to wine tasting, shall one not find anything that will impress. Well, wait. Price point yes, that will impress, definitely.
Either you live in South Africa or abroad, Villeira labels priced high, higher than their taste, higher than competitors. Who happens to live in the UK and being M&S customer might be very well acquainted to their wines.
Sorry for being wordy about the brand positioning even though there must be something odd with their marketing. Back to their labels, in particular, MCCs either plain or hit palate, mostly pretentious, persistent.
Some white wines come decent although it does not feel like one wants to come back (and not just at the farm). Red? Please don’t.
Speaking of the farm, it’s on the news Stellenbosch property Villiera has been sold to Iwayini, the South African sudsidiary of GCF (Grands Chais de France), a company owned and run by the Helfrich family. Big names, big numbers. Villeira...
Read moreVilliera Wines is situated just outside the town of Stellenbosch, about a 30-40 minute drive from Cape Town CBD. Being just a short distance from the N1 highway, this wine estate is easy to find and easy to access, while offering ample parking space under a lovely tree canopy. I visited Villiera Wines to experience their Sparkling Wine and Nougat tasting, and was satisfied with the overall quality of the offering. The tasting is slighly expensive at R120 per person, considering that the nougat is not "home made", but a commercial product readily available in stores everywhere. The sparkling wines were enjoyable and of top quality. The premises is clean, neat and the staff helpful and friendly. Patrons can view the cellar, vinyards and enjoy a tour at the nearby wildlife sanctuary. Lots to do and see for any tourist visiting the...
