Alpensia Ski Resort in South Korea was the main venue for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, making it a significant location for winter sports enthusiasts. However, compared to larger ski resorts, Alpensia is relatively small, featuring only three ski lifts and six slopes. While it may not be the best choice for advanced skiers seeking a wide variety of runs, it can be a decent option for beginners and casual skiers looking for a more relaxed experience.
One of the resort’s highlights is its thoughtfully designed layout, resembling a small alpine village. It features well-known international hotel chains such as Holiday Inn and InterContinental, providing comfortable accommodation options for visitors. Additionally, there are multiple CU convenience stores scattered around, making it easy to grab quick snacks or essentials. The resort also offers a variety of restaurants, though the dining selection is somewhat limited compared to larger ski destinations.
Beyond skiing, Alpensia provides other recreational facilities, including an indoor water park, which is a great option for families or those looking to unwind after a day on the slopes. There’s also a convention center, making the resort a potential venue for events and conferences.
Overall, while Alpensia Ski Resort may not be the most expansive ski destination in South Korea, it offers a well-rounded experience with quality accommodations, basic amenities, and a charming village atmosphere. It’s a suitable choice for those looking for a more relaxed ski trip, but those seeking more extensive slopes and advanced skiing terrain may prefer larger resorts...
Read morePrior to Alpensia Ski resort, I have visited Elysian. This review is based on the comparison between two. Alpensia is far better than Elysian for first time or beginners. At Alpensia, Well organised Ski Equipment & Cloth rental, locker system. English speaking staffs. Good Quality of the Ski equipments. I have missed the Ski training here as I had it before at Elysian. It could have been better if had taken 1~2hr of Ski lessons at Alpensia Ski School. Snow quality is good. Less crowded even during the weekend. We went there on Saturday. 10 minutes by taxi from Hoenggye City Centre. At Elysian, I have seen huge crowd, staffs were unable to handle the crowd. Equipment & Cloth rental are a mess. Amateur trainers. Huge crowd could be because of its proximity and easy access from Seoul.
For first timers, I strongly do not recommend Elysian. For experienced skiers, bring your own Ski equipments and cloth for Elysian. Rental is not recommended.
My next stop is Phoenix Ski Resort. I will update this review after my...
Read moreOver-rated. Minimal facilities. Overcrowding. Beginner snowboarding lessons were over-priced and the Chinese instructor we got, wasn't very helpful or enthusiastic in teaching us. Being qualified (maybe in terms of certification) and being able to maneuver the snowboard does not necessarily mean the person is able to deliver and teach. it make a difference. The person needs to be passionate and enthusiastic. Otherwise he's just another statue modeling around after pitching the script and waiting to be paid. What a waste! Utter disappointment. Our experience would have been better if the ski school had better instructors who help beginners learn and enjoy the experience. Different teaching skills should apply to different age group. so everyone can have an enjoyable time during the lesson. That's why we are paying hundreds only for an approx 2hr lesson excluding rentals for...
