Geungnakbojeon Hall of Sinheungsa Temple is a 3 kan* by 3 kan structure with a hip-and-gable roof and heavily bracketed eaves. It served as a temple where prayers were offered for the repose of deceased members of the royal family in Yeongdong Province. It exhibits significant differences from its counterparts in terms of its overall structure and form– particularly its exterior designs, bracket system, platform, stairs, and doors and windows. Notably, the ornamental peony and lion motifs engraved on the base platform and the Sam-Taegeuk forms and dragon heads on the balusters of the stairs are rarely seen in other temple buildings. The hall has been preserved in good condition, although it appears to have been repaired in the mid-eighteenth century, and is worthy of designation as a national cultural heritage (Treasure) in recognition of its historical, architectural, and...

Absolutely stunning !!!! We we on a cruise around Japan, which had one detour stop in South Korea. We had great weather to explore this incredible national park. It is breathtakingly beautiful. Take the cable car up to a great vantahpoint from which you can get an arial view of the national gem. You can also pay your respects at the base of an enormous Buddha and visit an ancient temple. There are lots if hiked into the mountains, but we only had a couple of hours to explore. You could spend a few days in this park. We only got to scratch the surface of what it had to offer. The gardens are spectacular and beautifully maintained. This was a great way to spend what little time we had to explore a patch of...

We stayed at the temple for one night — it was a BEAUTIFUL experience and definitely the highlight of our trip to Korea. It was beyond anything we expected and so very special — we were given the opportunity to join prayers at night and at dawn with the monks. We stayed in a beautiful temple building with a super warm and cosy room. Excellent way to relax and de-stress, surrounded by nature. Our highlight of the stay was meeting Monk Mu-Moon who spent some time teaching my husband and I meditation techniques. Thank you so much for...

One of the most popular temple/hike attractions in the fall of S. Korea and it did not disappoint. We just missed the height of the fall colors but was told it's beautiful on all 4 seasons and the winter scenery is amazingly serene! As popular as it was the driving into the park was very long and slow so we ended up parking lower and walked an additional mile each way. Hiking up to Ulsanbawi is challenging but the views from the top are worth the trip. No longer required a ticket to enter.
