Steep and narrow access track before you get to a shaded parking area full of campers. Pretty bohemian atmosphere, campfire, outdoor cooking, craft stand selling jewelry, jugglers, yoga and other martial arts were on offer that day (2nd May 2022) in the afternoon. There were several people of various nationalities taking the waters and I had to try it for myself. It was warm and pleasant, shallow stone pools with many uneven slabs, a lot of them slippery. Caution is required and advertised. The place is totally free access so you are under your own responsibility when stepping in any of the pools available. It is possible to lay on the nearby grass verge of the lake and you can also follow the trail to the well preserved ruins of the Roman military camp of Aquis Querquennis, well worth the short walk away. Sadly it was rather windy and cold that afternoon but the space is pretty clean and all seemed respectful of this natural location.

NOTE: After returning to this apot in June 2025, i noticed the lake so full that the roman baths were buried a meter under water. This is definately a late summer or fall destination once the dam lets out some of its water. It's quite phenominal that a 2000 year old roman bath THAT STILL FUNCTIONS is out in the open and free to use. 5 pools, 4 of them crystal clear, ranging from warm to hot. RVs: the sign at the entrance clearly states NO RVs. For those who chose to ignore, the road is steep and unpaved. On rainy days getting out will likely be impossible. One of the locals said that the town does send police to ticket overnighters and RVs every once in a while, and especially when there is a complaint. I don't usually comment this, but please respect an incredible site and let keep it free for everyone.

The site was partially covered by water during my visit, but if you swim about 5 meters in, you’ll find the hot spring water flowing in from above. It’s actually a more epic experience this way — feeling the contrast between the cold river water surrounding you and the hot stream warming you from above. The depth reaches about 1.65 meters, so if you're taller than 1.70m, you can stand comfortably and enjoy the natural thermal bath. 🚐 Note for campervans: If your van is over 2.2 meters high, you won’t be able to pass the narrow entrance. You’ll need to park elsewhere and walk in. --- For more tips follow me on Google. I have a lot of maps and places to visit all around the world 🌎 all for free for my followers on Google Maps.
