Marvelous collection in a beautiful setting.

I did the Friday tour. 5 stars are due to our guide, Carlota. She provided a wonderful introduction to the collection. In little over an hour, she gave a professional and enthusiastic explanation of what was there. I would happily go back for a more in-depth visit on my own after such a well done presentation.

She also took the trouble to return something I had left at the security check. Added to the patience she showed in the face of a rather irritating group I felt she really hit the ball out of the stadium in terms of caring for visitors.

After a 1.5 hour train ride, we got here just so that the guards could turn us away because we didn’t have “authorization,” even though Google says otherwise (it’s supposedly open until 2 pm and we got there at 12:15pm) and the site says nothing about needing said authorization at all. It’s extremely disrespectful to tourists to not follow through with the habitual business hours. It’s very far away, and not easy to find, almost like they don’t want people to come. El 4 de noviembre pase una tarde deliciosa visitando con un grupo de seis amigos la Sala de Arte emplazada en la Ciudad Financiera de Boadilla . Aunque nos acordábamos de su anterior sede en Marques de Villamagna la actual tiene el aliciente de añadir una interesante arquitectura vanguardista y una impresionante jardinería donde destacan los olivos milenarios de la entrada. De la colección debemos destacar la grandiosa colección de murales de Sert sobre las Bodas de Camacho de El Quijote que se encontraban en el comedor del hotel Waldorf Astoria de Nueva York. Estos murales son tantos y de tal tamaño que la sala que les alberga es de grandísimas dimensiones. La colección de pinturas es muy interesante y diversa y reúne básicamente las colecciones del Banco Urquijo de Juan Llado, la del Banco Hispano Americano y la del Banco de Santander. De las obras destacaría la Virgen de Juan de Juanes, el Cristo Crucificado de El Greco, el torero Lechuga y su cuadrilla de Gutiérrez Solana y el cuadro de la bellísima Cleo de Merode pintada por Manuel Benedito. Las visitas son por ahora guiadas. Quiero destacar que nuestro guía Alberto Rubio nos hizo muy agradable la visita con su entusiasmo y conocimiento de la obras.
