Lagos de Covadonga — Attraction in Cangas de Onís

Here are some hints and tips. During high season, before 8:00 in the morning, you can get to the lakes on your own vehicle. After that it is only public bus.

This one runs from 9 in the morning till 9 in the evening. The fare is 9 € for a round trip, and the frequency is every twenty minutes.

The first stop is at the Cangas de Onis' bus station. Then there are other three stops along the way, until you reach the terminus (i.e., the lakes in question: fifth stop). The whole trip lasts around 40 minutes.

Now, I recommend that you should park your car at the Parking grande P1 in Cangas de Onis, which is right next to the bus station, and costs just 2€ for the whole day.

Bear in mind that the further up you park along the route (P2, P3, P4), the more the chance is that you'll find it difficult to find free spots on the bus. Indeed, as the bus goes up along the route, it gets more and more crowded, until it is completely full up. Also, big lines form at the various stops: the further ahead, the worse. Ha sido una de las mejores visitas de nuestro viaje por Asturias y Cantabria. Era un día marcado en rojo en nuestro itinerario por ser un lugar tan emblemático. Situado en el corazón del Parque Nacional de los Picos de Europa, los Lagos de Covadonga conforman un paraje natural extraordinario que, pese a estar siempre muy concurrido de turistas, ha sabido mantener intacta su esencia con un turismo sostenible. La mejor manera de disfrutar de este increíble lugar es hacerlo a pie través del sendero turístico por el cual discurre la Ruta de los Lagos PR-PNEP 2. Esta ruta circular de senderismo, que no tiene pérdida ninguna, pasa por los puntos turísticos más bonitos (centro de visitantes, mirador del Príncipe, minas de Buferrera, lago Ercina, mirador de Entrelagos y lago Enol). El inicio y final de la ruta es el mismo, el parking de Buferrera (donde deja/se coge el bus). Casi todo el sendero está empedrado (excepto el paseo junto al lago Ercina) y bien señalizado, con varios tramos de escaleras.

A los Lagos de Covadonga se llega por la carretera AS-262, que va desde Soto de Cangas hasta el Santuario, y una vez alli coger el desvío hacia los Lagos por la carretera CO-4 (total 18km). Desde Cangas de Onis, el pueblo donde se alojan la mayoría de turistas, apenas son 22km y se tarda unos 40 min en llegar. MUY IMPORTANTE tener en cuenta que en temporada alta (de mayo a octubre) la carretera de acceso a los Lagos está cortada para coches particulares a partir de las 8 de la mañana y ya solo pueden subir autobuses. El tramo de carretera que se cierra es únicamente el que va del Santuario a los Lagos, es decir, hasta la Basílica el acceso es libre en coche durante todo el año. Por tanto, tienes dos opciones para subir a los Lagos: 1.- madrugar mucho y subir en coche antes de las 8 (hay parking en los Lagos). El corte de la carretera se sitúa justo en el Santuario. 2.- subir en bus (cuesta 9€). Los autobuses suben y bajan durante todo el día y puedes cogerlo en unas de las 5 paradas que tiene (parking de Cangas de Onis, los 3 parkings habilitados en la carretera AS-262 y en el propio Santuario). Personalmente, creo que la opción más cómoda es dejar el coche en los parkings de la carretera AS-262 (cuesta 2€ todo el día) y allí coger el bus que lleva a los Lagos.

Si te organizas bien, puedes visitar el Santuario y los Lagos en una misma mañana (sin prisas). Nosotros llegamos a los Lagos a eso de las 10.30h de la mañana (2 horas de ruta senderismo) y a las 13h estábamos de vuelta en el Santuario (1 hora de visita). If you don’t want to pay 2euro in parking P1-5 for some i-don’t-know-what association, you can park your car in the parking lots on the opposite street of P1 and right next to the Alsa main station. It’s free and no one will bother you to pay. The buses are very organized and you don’t need to wait for long to go up and come back (when you come down, the waiting line is long but very fast. I only waited like 15mins). The lakes are nice but water is not so clean, and the view is definitely not at same level in Switzerland so don’t have your hope up.
