Ruta de los Calderones is an incredible hike near the small town of Chulilla, taking around 3.5 hours and covering more than 17 km. It’s definitely not a beginner’s trail. While most of the route is easy to moderate, there are sections with steep descents and many rocks, making some parts a bit tricky and potentially dangerous. I highly recommend wearing proper hiking shoes with sturdy soles — regular sneakers don’t offer enough confidence on the rough terrain. Also, make sure to bring plenty of water. We had one 1.5-liter bottle for two people, and while we managed, we had to start rationing towards the end.

The views are absolutely breathtaking. The mountains have a texture and reddish hue that reminded me of U.S. national parks. You’ll cross beautiful water bodies and different kinds of bridges, including hanging ones. The hike takes you up and down, offering stunning perspectives of the park from different levels. There are also peaceful forest sections with the amazing scent of trees and absolute silence — just listening to the quiet and breathing in the forest air is a delight in itself.

I highly recommend doing this hike in the fall or early spring when the weather in Spain is comfortable. Attempting it in the middle of summer heat could be extremely tough. Make sure to pack enough water, wear proper footwear, bring a power bank, and keep your phone charged for photos and emergencies. For older hikers or those who may struggle with balance, a walking stick could make a huge difference in safety and comfort. Overall, it’s an excellent hike and I highly...

Just a 50-minute drive from Valencia, the Ruta de los calderones is an unexpectedly breathtaking hike that feels like a miniature version of the Grand Canyon. The trail winds through a striking landscape of rugged cliffs, narrow gorges, and dramatic rock formations that make you feel like you've been transported to another continent.

The entire route is fascinating, offering scenic views at every turn and plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the natural beauty. It’s not an overly difficult hike, making it accessible for most fitness levels, and the peaceful surroundings add to the overall charm.

If you’re staying in Valencia and looking for a half-day escape into nature, this route is absolutely worth it. Bring good shoes, water, and a camera, you won’t want to miss capturing this stunning...
