The Charco Azul is a popular attraction in Chulilla, a lake bounded on three sides by the steep cliffs of the Turía gorge that can be reached by a delightful walk along the well-marked SL-CV 74 which follows the canyon's base alongside the river as it loops around the huge outcrop on which the village has been built. There are several small wooden bridges to cross, a few scrambles over and even through huge boulder fields, the huge chunks dislodged from the steep cliffs in years gone by. The lake itself - it means "Blue Puddle" in English - can be a beautiful quiet reflective place if you time it right. There is evidence of the old route that the workers building the nearby reservoir took, narrow planks anchored precariously to the one of the cliff faces just above the surface of the water. The walkway seems to have been closed for the moment but with a bit of investment to renovate it, the route could become a great addition to link with that of the hanging bridges - and a fun attraction in itself. Read moreBeautiful place for a nice hike! The hanging platform above the lake were closed as they are broken and impossible to walk on. So we walked to the lake from the other side. It's really nice to see it and the nature surrounding it. The mountains are amazing! It can be tough to find parking in the village. We were able to find one closer to the route but it may be challenging to find a spot. It's quite an easy walk, it start in the village of Chulilla, look for the Cargo Azul sign. First you go down to the river and just follow it till you see the lake and you can either return the sane way, or near the pond, where the steaks end, keep on straight to finish the hike from another side, or go back up the stairs to the village.
