Visiting the vibrant Sunday Market in the picturesque town of El Campello is an absolute must for both locals and tourists. Held twice a week, with the other market day on Wednesday, on a other location, this market stands out for bringing together local farmers and vendors who offer a vast array of regional products. The selection of food items is simply astonishing, ranging from fresh fruits and vegetables to dry fruits, a variety of pickled goods like olives, wines, honey, eggs, and an impressive assortment of cheeses and meats. But it doesn't stop there; you can also find clothing, perfumes, kitchen utensils, bakeries, and much more.
The market is always bustling with life, and its offerings change regularly, ensuring that every visit is a new experience. The quality of the local food products is outstanding, and the prices are unbeatable—for example, juicy mandarins at 3kg for 2 euros, 20 huge country eggs for 5.50 euros, or 5kg of the finest oranges for between 4 and 6 euros. The people here are friendly and lively, adding to the market's charm.
A highlight of the market is the roasted chicken, for 11 euros, which is succulent and flavorful, served with excellent potatoes—a must-try for any visitor. This market is not just a place to shop; it's a destination to enjoy beautiful days, perhaps while sipping a coffee and soaking in the atmosphere.
I highly recommend this market and find myself returning every Sunday, even when I don't need to buy anything. It's more than just a market; it's a weekly ritual that embodies the spirit of El Campello and...
Read morePrices of fruits and vegetables varies quite significantly from one to another stall. I notice that every stall will have some produce without the price shown. This is annoying because they can quote a different price to different potential customer, whether you are local or an obvious foreigner. If nearing closing time, vendors will mark down prices on certain fresh produce but they will choose the very bruised and about to go bad specimens for the customer.
Update 29 Oct. 2023. Getting more and more expensive. Even more produce without price shown. I have learned and totally avoid buying any fresh produce that has no price shown.
Update 27 Oct 2024 Today I saw a ridiculous price shown. Red capsicum or red pepper selling for 4.90 EURO per kilo. You literally have to walk through the entire market and take note of prices BEFORE you buy anything!!
Updated 13 April 2025 Getting from WORSE to WORST! If you are a foreigner or from out of town, go there for an experience BUT don't be too...
Read moreThis market has grown into a bustling, lively Sunday market from its inception some years ago when there were few stalls on vaste, empty tarmac. A wide variety of stalls selling fruit, veg, cooked meats, eggs, herbs and spices, pastries and bread, freshly roast chicken, eggs; clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, etc, etc and at least a couple of kiosk cafés. You can get some of the cheapest fruit and veg if you take time to look around. Some veg sellers may not display prices but you can ask and if not satisfied, move on as there are plenty of alternatives. Busy all year, more so in summer. Ample parking in the big carparks nearby but the closer one fills quicker. Roadside parking as well if you can get it. The road runs from the N332 highway down to the sea and can be slow-going at times, especially when people are constantly crossing. Alternative is to come from the sea end and use the carpark to the right after the first big roundabout which is nearly always...
