Bodegas Murua — Attraction in Elciego

I totally advise a tour in this winery. We booked a tour for two on a Saturday afternoon and we were in for a treat. We got a private tour to the vineyards, winery and the estate where you can find several works of art and antiques as well as a library totally focused on wines. Our guide, Arantxa, was really great. She told us all about wine making at this winery and also about the works of art you could find in the estate. At the end, there is a wine tasting with 3 Murua wines (1 white and 2 red reserves). During the tasting, besides wine-related information, Arantxa told us some curiosities about the winery and its history, which made everything more pleasant and real for us. My husband and I were in Spain for a 2 week vacation, and in Rioja, we toured Murua. This is a huge producer offering a private tour. Compared to smaller producers, there's a fascinating contrast to understand how they maximize yields and keep uniform quality. The best part about that tour was the excellent guide. Because it’s a winery owned by the fourth most wealthiest family in Spain, they have an amazing private art collection that you only see by booking a tour. We visited this fabulous winery in May 2024. Our host, David, was so very gracious and shared his vast knowledge of wine and the organic processes along with the history of the winery and the area. We are still sharing his tidbits with friends and family. The property and the house alone are well worth the visit but the wine, of course, is the key and we are ready to order another case!...
