Beautiful dining room and accommodating service are what greets the visitor to La Florida. There aren't a lot of options for eating in Eltziego, unless you consider getting ripped off by Marques de Riscal winery for miniature food in huge plates for $150 PER PERSON, a real value meal. Just a 2 minute drive into the town from the winery rewards the inquisitive with a menu of the day at the equivalent of $14 USD for a delicious 3 course lunch. We thought this to be the deal of the ages.
Check out their website for the options. We chose the RISOTTO WITH MUSHROOMS AND JAMON & the PASTA CARBONARA as starters. We found them to be delicious and well prepared. We both had the PORK TENDERLOIN GRILLED WITH ROQUEFORT SAUCE for our main course and loved it. Solomillo (pork tenderloin) is on many menus in Spain and this one would rank with the best we had over our 3 week adventure. For dessert, we had the cheesecake and custard options and we loved them. The meal was served with a glass of wine and we recommend VALDELANA as it is superb and not the swill from Marques...

We particularly enjoyed the Menú del Día, for €25 - which is a bargain for a Sunday lunchtime in the middle of the town’s biggest Fiesta. Food was excellent, and they were very willing to vary the published Menú to accommodate my vegetarian partner. Generous portions, with especially tasty Baked Apples with cream and ice cream (and plenty of cinnamon!) amongst the desserts. Wine (a good Rioja from the town), bread and water (a full litre between the two of us - a blessing in a heatwave!) included. I can’t fault...
Read moreThis is probably the best place to eat inside the village of Elciego. The daily menu has a lot of variety and eating outside in their terrace is very nice, despite the terrace supplement of 1.5€. Me and my friend had artichokes and seafood fideua for firsts and cod and tuna for seconds. Both fishes were cooked to perfection and the artichokes were also very tasty. The wine that accompanied the menu could be better but, at least, it is a wine from the DOP Rioja. The man behind the counter is so nice and he's always making jokes. Truly the best asset of...
