Castellón Alto — Attraction in Galera

I went to Castellón Alto on Thursday morning with a group of 9 people from a walking group. To arrange the visit I contacted Ana who was incredibly helpful in advising the best time to visit, as there was already a huge group booked in. For English speakers there is a very detailed and well written guide (on sheets of A4 paper). Sometimes, and with prior notice, it might be possible to get an English speaking guide to take you around the site. We had the pleasure of an extremely enthusiastic and passionate Mari Carmen who gave thorough explanations in Spanish, allowing me the opportunity and time to translate into English.

The history is absolutely fantastic - Castellón Alto is well worth a visit. I would also recommend driving just a minute or so beyond the car park so that you can also see Castellón Alto from the other side at ground level, to put it into further perspective.

As mentioned by other reviewers, access is by a steep ramp so it is impossible for wheelchair users and is also difficult for those with less mobility. Also, there is no shade.

Our group each paid 4€ for the visit. There is a combined ticket option if you visit the Museum and the Iberian Necropolis of Tutugi as well.

Wenn es möglich wäre, sechs Sterne zu vergeben – hier ist der Ort, der sie verdient! Der Besuch von Castellón Alto war ein absolutes Highlight unserer Reise durch die Region. Die archäologische Stätte selbst ist faszinierend, mit einer atemberaubenden Lage, tiefgreifender Geschichte und liebevoll restaurierten Details aus der El-Argar-Kultur. Doch was den Besuch wirklich unvergesslich gemacht hat, war Mari Carmen – unsere Guide mit Herz, Verstand und Leidenschaft.

Sie ist schlichtweg Weltklasse: Mit unglaublichem Fachwissen, spürbarer Begeisterung und einem erfrischenden Maß an Engagement hat sie uns durch die Siedlung geführt. Ihre Art, Geschichte lebendig werden zu lassen – mit Humor, spannenden Details und einem tiefen Respekt vor der Vergangenheit – war schlicht beeindruckend.

Man merkt sofort: Mari Carmen liebt, was sie tut. Sie beantwortet jede Frage geduldig, bringt persönliche Anekdoten ein und schafft es, auch Laien für Archäologie zu begeistern. Solche Menschen sind ein Geschenk für den Kulturtourismus!

Wir sind tief dankbar für dieses Erlebnis und empfehlen Castellón Alto jedem, der Andalusien besucht. Und wenn möglich: Unbedingt eine Führung mit Mari Carmen machen!

Ein echtes Juwel – mit...

No te esperas encontrar tanta historia en ese pequeño promontorio. Bien acondicionado pese a los escasos recursos disponibles y la difícil orografía. Escaleras y barandillas facilitan los movimientos con cierta seguridad aunque no hay acceso para personas con movilidad reducida o coches de bebe. Hicimos una visita guiada (2 € por persona) con las estupendas explicaciones de Maricarmen a la que da gusta escuchar por su tono de voz y lo bien que transmite sus amplios conocimientos. A los pies de la colina, una amplia zona de aparcamiento asfaltada y con algo de sombra natural, desde la que parte una vereda cementada que caracolea durante 300 m. con una fuerte pendiente hasta la valla de entrada al recinto donde te recibe la guía. Desde aquí, una ruta circular que comienza subiendo a la parte más alta para ir descendiendo por los diferentes niveles hasta la parte inferior volviendo al punto de salida (una hora que se hace corta).
