This red mountain of volcanic origin (or what remains of it) reaches 171m (560 ft). Close to the ocean / beach, it stands out from the landscape around and you easily identify it from the road TF-1.

You can park your car in an area along the road near Playa de la Tejita. The path has no particular difficulties, but I recommend to wear good shoes (small lava rocks can easily roll under your feet and are abrasive).

To reach the summit, you have to find the main path. It depends on where you start your hike. Sometimes the main path seems to disappear because of the different small tracks you meet along your hike. But it is impossible for one to get lost. The last part is almost oriented NE-SW (ascent). Approximately 30-40m after starting your hike, you reach the summit with its 360° viewpoint. You have a splendid panorama on the coast (Los Abrigos, El Medano,...) and far away on the island (small volcanos). Reina Sofia airport is very close and you can watch the planes taking off or landing (OK, it's fun 5 minutes, not more 😁).

The wind may be strong sometimes, so keep an item of clothing within reach.

When you are on your return journey, take time to pass by the area with silvery-gray color sand (in front of you when you come down from...

Red Mountain Lookout in Tenerife is a must-visit for anyone who enjoys a scenic hike with rewarding views at the summit. The trail offers breathtaking panoramic sights of the coastline and surrounding landscapes, but be prepared for a bit of a challenge. The hike itself can be quite strenuous, especially towards the top, where the terrain becomes rougher and more uneven. Certain sections of the path can also be slippery, particularly if it’s been raining recently, so wearing sensible, sturdy shoes with good grip is essential.

It’s also a good idea to bring plenty of water with you, as the hike can be long and there aren’t any facilities along the trail. The ascent takes time, but the effort is well worth it once you reach the top. The views from the lookout are spectacular, offering a great reward for the trek. If you’re planning on spending time up there to take in the surroundings, pack a snack as well.

Overall, Red Mountain Lookout provides a fantastic hiking experience with incredible vistas. Just make sure you’re well-prepared for the journey and ready for a bit of adventure...

Simple ascent to do with suitable shoes and clothing. From the summit you can enjoy a splendid view, to the east on the Medano beach, to the west on the Tjita beach and to the northwest on the Tenerife Sur airport.

Ascenso simple que hacer con zapatos y ropa adecuada. Desde la cumbre se puede disfrutar de una espléndida vista, al este en la playa del Médano, al oeste en la playa Tjita y al noroeste en el aeropuerto...

If you like nature, hiking and amazing views, you should climb Montaña Roja for sure! From the beach of El Medano it’s only 3 kilometers to reach the top. The climb is rather difficult, but the descent is more difficult, because the loose stones... (slippery)! Once you reached the top you have an amazing 360 view ! It’s nice to sit here for a while and enjoy the silence... There are different pads you can follow at the foot of the mountain.
