The whole area is lovely! If, like most you arrive early in El Madano by bus, into the scenic water front harbour, have breakfast in one of the water front cafes along the beach promenade. Order your "Cafe ' Lache Lache" ( a local brew with creamy sweet condensed milk) and a fresh orange juice, probably the best you will ever drink! Once fueled up! Stroll along the Beach in the direction of the red mountain. Past the mesmerising kite surfers towards the base of the red mountain. A persistant walk right around the waters edge if either side of the red mountain will take you to a beautiful beaches popular with nudist's. Ideal for soaking up the sun, with the drama of carrying all the usual gear! If you fancy more than just the sun, it's all there for the less shy and uninhibited who venture behind the rocks for some seclusion and a mediocrity of privacy. To climb the red mountain, stick to the safest less steep, signposted land side route. Do not attempt to climb it from either beach side, unless you're and experienced rock free climber. The sign posted route is safe and east enough for the average person, and well worth the effort. The views from the summit, are an ideal way to get your bearings of the area. After your adventures head to the El Madano water front and enjoy a meal in one of the excellent waterfront...
Read moreThis is a fairly easy hike up the mountain. Hardest part is that it’s gravely so it can get a little slippery at times, but just carefully calculate where you walk and you’ll be fine. The trail starts to disperse a little toward the top, but you’ll find your way. We walked over from El Médano following the trails and then walked along the beach on the way back, which I recommend if that’s where you’re staying. The views from the top are great, we hung out there for a little. It’s windy, but as to be expected at the top of a mountain especially in El Médano where wind surfing is a top sport. We didn’t have a chance to do it, but I would definitely try to hike up for sunset, I think it would be a great spot. The hike up from the bottom overall took us about an hour with stops, but otherwise probably would’ve taken about 45 minutes....
Read moreQuite short and easy hike, and easy to reach from El Medano. Quite windy during winter months
Good paths go around the hill and up the ridge to the top. It's a little bit steep midways, but should be manageable for old and young.
Once at the top for complete safety you should behind the fence. If you want to see the cliff you have to go past the cage with the solar panel that powers the light (for boats), but be adviced there are no fences here, the gravel can be slippery and people have fallen down with fatal results.
But if you aren't being careless it should be fine and you'll be rewarded with a grey view..
From the top you can see multiple hill tops throughout the southern part...
