Visiting Teide was an unforgettable experience and definitely a highlight of the trip. The views were absolutely breathtaking—from the moment we started the journey up, the landscape became more surreal with every turn. The dramatic contrast between the volcanic terrain and the surrounding clouds gave it an almost otherworldly feel. Standing above the clouds was something I’ll never forget.
We took the cable car, which was smooth and well-organized, though it did feel a bit rushed at the top. You only get a limited time unless you have a special permit to hike further, so we had to keep an eye on the clock rather than fully soak it in. Still, even within that time, the panoramic views were stunning.
The air was noticeably thinner near the summit, so taking it slow was important. I’d recommend bringing layers—it gets chilly up there, even if it’s warm down below. There were also fewer facilities than I expected. The visitor center was informative, but I wish there had been a bit more in terms of food or drink options, especially after the hike.
Despite those small things, the experience as a whole was magical. It’s not every day you get to stand on the edge of a crater and look out over clouds stretching to the horizon. A must-do for nature lovers and...
Read moreThis review is specifically for the entrance to the cable car - they have an interesting little scam going where they tell you they have limited space for the next few slots so you can pay extra to buy the ticket with the audio guide (this is the exact same ticket but you also take the audio guide) all of a sudden because you have an audio guide you qualify to jump right on the cable car! Magic! If you don’t want an audio guide you will have to wait 2 hours to ascend. Once you go to collect your audio guide they inform you of the deposit of €50 euros for the audio guide... felt like we were being taken for a ride and we hadn’t even been on the cable car yet. Also if you refuse the audio guide (as we did due to the queue and €50 deposit) you are asked to fill out a very serious sounding form saying you renounce your right to get an audio guide and will not try to claim a refund later for the unused audio guide. Views and terrain all around are spectacular but this little operation left...
Read moreBook well in advance to guarantee your ride (part way) up the volcano. We were able to go up 30 mins before our allotted time and there was no queue. There is a large car park, gift shop, cafe and toilets at the base station. You need the QR code on your ticket to use the toilets. The car park is on quite a steep hill leading up to the cable car. We visited in July and were fine in shorts and t-shirts at the top station. It was cooler, but a welcome relief from the mid to late 30s heat at sea level. No need for long trousers or jumpers. You can check the temperature beforehand on the cable car website. At the top station you can see the north and east of the island. If you follow the path from the cable car, which is not easy to walk on as you find yourself stepping from one stone to another after an initial flat section, you can see part of the west of the island. You only have an hour at the top station, and have to scan your ticket at the to go...
