An example of a winery that needs to get over itself and move into the 21st Century! I might have enjoyed the tasting experience and buying some wine (which was my intention) but my wife (who was the designated driver and therefore, being responsible, did not want to participate) was asked to leave the premises (seriously!) because we would have otherwise been required to pay for her to ‘enjoy’ watching me do the tasting. We even offered to sit on separate tables so she wouldn’t have been able to listen in on their ‘intellectual property’ (their words, not mine!). Seriously disrespectful and irresponsible of the staff. I see others have left similar reviews below so not just my experience. Fortunately, Ysios across the road is a far more pleasurable experience and having tasted a Bodegas Javier at an another bar, I can tell you that Ysios offers better wines as well. Bodegas Javier needs to pick up its game and change its policy.
P.S. As a postscript following Bodegas Javier’s reply, they are clearly mistaking me with someone else which hardly seems surprising. Under no circumstances did I, nor my wife, offer for her to sit outside, which is frankly ridiculous in the heat of a summer day. Bodegas Javier should understand that a wine tasting is a marketing exercise, and the purpose of writing a negative review is not without merit or to degrade the staff but to warn other prospective customers of your ridiculous policy and poor customer service. We shall not be...
Read moreBeautiful winery with awesome views and excellent service staff. The interior of the tasting room is modern chic. Very cool! The staff are top notch. Super friendly and very patient and passionate with explaining the wines and recommendations. This winery is in a very strategic location that has amazing views of the mountains and the neighboring winery with a breathtaking architecture that is best admired from a distance. The wines, however, are good, but nothing to be wowed about. There are much better tasting wines in Rioja, so don't go crazy buying up a storm at this one. Definitely worth a visit for...
Read moreWe had such a wonderful experience at this bodega! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the space was very inviting, sort of like hanging out in your favorite neighborhood café. Javier is branching out into other spirits like gin and vermouth. The gin had not been released yet, but we appealed to the staff to sell us one of the few bottles they had on hand as we would not be able to return for the release next month. They asked Javier himself and he allowed the purchase! (It may have helped that the gin is named Rickman and my name is Rick!) whenever we return to La Rioja, we will be...
