Restaurante La Huerta Vieja — Restaurant in Laguardia

We are in Rioja for the weekend and my wife booked a table at this restaurant to try the tasting menu for lunch. We recognised it was good value for money and our expectations weren’t high. It was just convenient for us.

I think it’s fair to say that the staff are great, and that the chief obviously tried hard with the food, couldn’t fault the presentation.

However the fish wasn’t cooked well at all. My wife was having the pescatarian menu and was served cod twice (which we thought was a bit boring - but we didn’t complain). Once she enjoyed it but another time it was very dry and she didn’t eat it.

The one time I was served cod it was still raw in the middle. Needless to say I left it.

The octopus also needed further cooking as it was tough - not tender in the slightest.

The starter and the chocolate desert were the highlights for sure. Just a shame about the main courses.

I would say come here if you are on a budget and go for a la carte. I unfortunately can not recommend the...

This restaurant is set in a beautiful location surrounded by mountains and vineyards. We stopped in for Monday lunch and enjoyed the set menu consisting of appetizer, main course and dessert with wine included for €11 per person. The appetizer of artichokes with ham was full of flavor, as was the paella. Please take note the servings are enormous. Grilled steak was perfectly cooked medium and the french fries were tasty. Hamburger, Milanese, and ham steak all uniformly delicious. The service was pleasant and prompt. Wait staff were very understanding with regard to our broken Spanish. Reservado para las 14h y a las 15:45 seguimos esperando el postre. Lentitud entre plato y plato. El menú infantil, no es menú infantil, son platos del menú del día y enormes. Con lo que los niños se dejan casi todo. Hemos escogido el menú A. 8 adultos para comer y en los entrantes 7 espárragos para cada 4 personas...en fin, que cuesta poner 8 espárragos. El jamón bien. Las patatas con chorizo más bien es chorizo con patatas, muchísimos chorizos y patatas escasas. El segundo plato ponía muslo de pollo relleno y al final no había. Nos han sacado cordero al chilindrón. Poca carne, muchos hueso y ternilla. En fin, que no repetimos.

Una pena porque el sitio es genial, pero pocos camareros para tantas mesas y poco organizados.

Actualización: A la hora de cobrar un desastre total! Le pregunté que donde se pagaba y sin escucharme no prestarme atención me dijo: ya voy! Al rato me trae la cuenta un chico y le dije que yo no había pedido la cuenta, solo quería saber dónde se pagaba porque queríamos pagar cada uno lo suyo y me contesta: "Bueno, pues lo dividís entre todos o lo que sea." Y se fue tan campante.

Me levanté y le dije a la chica que quería que nos cobrará a cada uno su menú. Y me vuelve a traer 4 facturas, 8 menús x una parte, los infantiles x otro...un desastre, no sé entraba de nada. Al final le dije que íbamos a ir cada uno a pagar lo suyo a caja, como queríamos desde el primer momento.

Por cierto, nosotros reservamos y nos dijeron que teníamos que ir a Menú cerrado. Luego allí nos enteramos de que había menú del día, cuidado porque no informan de nada.

Y ojo: a la hora de cobrar nos cobraron el IVA a parte. En la carta ponen los precios con el IVA y están obligados a ponerlos con el IVA. Muchos cuidado que eso es ilegal.
