The castle does have parking but only small vehicles in my opinion due to the gradient of climb and narrow streets to get there. That said it's not too difficult to get up to the castle, if you park near the main plaza and find the tourist office they're great and will help, not sure if you could get up to the castle from below in a wheelchair : / It DOESN'T ALLOW DOGS! Which we didn't find out until we were about to enter. There's been a lot of work done to the castle to allow wheelchair & pushchair access which is commendable but it has spoilt the originality of it. You can't get a good photo of the outside without concrete blocks in clear view which was a shame. The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful, they gave us information on the old town which is where we headed next and followed their tour. It was typically very narrow old Spanish streets with hectic looking wiring lol. Some of the town houses balconies were great as they had tiled them underneath so that when you where looking up you could see some of the lovely tiles which are produced locally as it's a huge ceramica & outdoor tile production area for both domestic and commercial. It's free to get in and worth a visit if your in the area but don't take your dog! I'm sure if you were staying around the immediate area there would be other views of the castle from other angles from elsewhere below or on another hill top but we only...

"A number of different civilisations inhabited the castle over the centuries. Nowadays, within its walls you can visit Museo de Historia Local, the local history museum, and gaze at a valuable collection of Muslim yesería. You can also see Cueva del Algepsar, another museum that tells the story of what life was like in Onda during the...
Read moreThis visit was a great surprise and unexpected pleasure. We were travelling towards the coves of San José for a subterranean river tour when we decided to stop and see a castle. I searched for Castles in the area and decided on this one only because it was easily accessible and on the way.
When arriving, I was pleased that it was somewhat restored. The surrounding fortified city is long since gone and inside the walls, there are mostly ruins. However, they have restored a church that is now used for a museum.
There is a video presentation of the history of the castle that guides you through the museum using a spotlight.
While a reasonably good castle visit as castles visits go, what was fantastic for me was learning the history of Onda and how significant it was when the moors were in Spain.
Also, as you drive to Onda, you pass kilometres and kilometres of tile and ceramic factories and you wonder “why are there so many?” . Well, when you arrive at the castle and understand the importance of these decorative ceramics in adorning the Arabic castle, you understand how generations of artisans have established this area as a world producer and supplier of...
