We were intending to visit a few Bodegas in the area, but instead found all we wanted right here.

We arrived in between guided tours, so rather than hang around we took the self guided tour at €5 including one wine tasting of our choice.

Initially we couldn't understand how the first exhibit (the screw driven grape press) worked.

Then we saw the models at the side of the room, and all became clear.

From then on with the help of the printed guide, information boards and well displayed artefacts and photos, it was a thoroughly enjoyable way to learn how the winery had begun, and developed over the centuries.

Because we had to work it out for ourselves it was a much more involving experience than simply following someone around and being told everything.

The visit to the vineyard itself, to see the vines was an eye opener too.

The depth that some pits have had to be dug out, to reach the soil under the lava is quite amazing.

The only slight difficulty we (and a few other visitors) had was finding our way back into the reception area afterwards to collect our wine. One or two signs would be helpful.

The wines we chose (one sparkling white and a medium red) were very good. Not enough to tempt us to part with money though.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. They seemed to speak a few other languages between them too.

There is a café/restaurant on site and the seating was lovely, sheltered from the wind, but sunny.

The toilet facilities were clean and modern.

Car parking is free.

Accessibility is a bit hit and miss. Obviously the older buildings which make up the majority of the tour, contain steps, stairs and changes of level.

The car park, reception, cafe/restaurant and toilets all looked accessible.

We're glad we chose to go here. We had a great time, learned lots and for a...

A Must-Visit Winery on Lanzarote - I had the pleasure of visiting Bodega El Grifo with my life partner during a cruise stop on Lanzarote in December 2024—and what a gem this place is!

We enjoyed a beautiful self-guided tour through the historic vineyard and wine museum. The setting is atmospheric, combining tradition and innovation with well-preserved tools, volcanic stone walls, and lovely walking paths among the vines.

The wine tasting experience was a real highlight: the staff was knowledgeable and welcoming, and we tried several award-winning wines, each with a distinct character that beautifully reflects the unique terroir of Lanzarote. I especially appreciated the Malvasía Volcánica varieties—crisp, elegant, and unforgettable.

Whether you're a wine lover or simply curious about Lanzarote's culture and history, El Grifo is a must. It’s one of the oldest wineries in the Canary Islands and still feels fresh and vibrant. I wholeheartedly recommend adding it to your island itinerary.

P.S. I was sure I had posted this review back in December, but couldn't find it in my history—so I’m posting it...

Very nice place to visit and good choice as it was difficult to choose among all the available bodegas.. The full entrance package includes for 18 euros for 2 persons the visit of the museum and a testing of 6 glasses of house wines. For the visitt this is a guide tour but Beware check by phone availability of time and langage available ..no french available when we went si we did it by ourselves. For the wine testing, you are to choose your 6 wines among the wine list card and this is (well) served in official tasting iso 3591.. and accompanied with a light snack ( bits of cheese, some marmalade and crackers) ses the plate on the photo..the con:.Plan To give some extra bucks To taste allwines..the package should include at least the HQ red(100% syrah). Best tasting surprise and ranking for me ls the dry White Malvasia de Lias and the HQ réf 100% Syrah Réserva de familia. Bottle procès at the shop are high but To ne référer to the specific wine growing conditions in lava(low productivity.. ) So nice muséum visit and tasting worththe...
