I am always reluctant to pan a golf course, recognizing that tastes vary in all things. On the other hand, I have never been approached ON THE PRACTICE RANGE and asked by the Caddy Master himself to tuck in my shirt – and an elegant Oakley pin stripe at that! San Rocque's Old Course is a charade. A garbled mix of parkland golf (front nine) and target (foothills) golf (back nine), the course has no theme or philosophy that I could discern. The course is long and the landing areas vary from unfairly narrow to ridiculously wide. I would have thought that the Old Course was a Ross course at first glance because there are sand traps EVERYWHERE. But Ross courses are characterized by uniformly consistent sand; San Rocque sadly is not. Its your guess what you get when you land in one of the many sand traps with one exception. Greenside bunkers are so shallowly sanded that it is nearly impossible to put spin on your sand shots. And those sand shots are to greens that are lightning fast and (for me and the other 3 golfers in my foursome) impossible to read well. San Rocque is an elegant venue with a beautiful clubhouse, more than adequate pro shop and good restaurant. That is why I was so puzzled by the poor maintenance throughout the venue. That poor maintenance is very troubling on the greens. Putting on lightning fast greens that are difficult to read is hard enough without having poorly repaired ball marks and "old scars" in your line almost invariably. At the end of the day, San Rocque's Old Course is a potentially very fine golf course made joyless by lack of maintenance, lack of thought and lack of any discernible design philosophy. Simply put, it is no fun to play, especially when surrounded by some very fine, very fun courses. Two stars may be...

I've read the reviews on TripAdvisor. Poor Customer Service etc. Here's the truth.
I played this course today . Met and Greeted by Ramon on arrival. He pulled up with a golf buggy to meet our arrival in a taxi. We then saw him 5 more times during our day, incl on the course whilst he checked how everything was going .
We had the lay out explained to us, they took our bags, and directed us to the Pro Shop. The women there were brilliant (sorry I didn't get their names).
Then off to the changing rooms, the lights do work you just have to flip a switch. Yes they do charge €1 for 15 balls at the driving range, but no big deal. Rosemont (a prestigious club in Scotland does the same).
The staff were attentive, helpful and genuinely friendly throughout. As for the course, it is absolutely incredible. It makes you want to play great golf. Great lay out. A proper pinch yourself experience.
There's no beer or food cart that meets you valve way round ( but you can pop into the bar after 9 holes and grab a 6 pack if you want one. There's no stuffiness involved.
Yes there are members only areas, but you do not feel second class. The menu was much cheaper than yesterday's course, as were the beers (and they were a higher quality too).
Overall we were blown away by the course, the customer service and the entire day. Well worth a visit.
And finally, €22 for a Vodka and Orange. Yes if you order a dbl (50ml) Grey Goose and leave a tip, but really just have an ice cold beer for a quarter of the price.
Great Day, only sadness is I'll never be lucky enough to play here again. But I played well, and leave with fond memories. Thank You to everyone at The...
Read moreReviewing NEW COURSE. Me and my friends vacationing in Spain, starting on this course. Arriving you feel like in high class resort and it probably is. Checking was very fast and easy, I had chance to get logo ball for my collection and check in. We were asking if there is water available and refreshment on the course, we were told yes. We asked if we can get bottles to fill in and we were told that caddy master will manage, and there we did mistake. We forgot about "manana" style. On the course we were not able to drink because we had no bottles and refreshment cart arrived on 16th hole. Look like that there is no one interested in tourist money once they pay for fee. Training areas are nice and well maintained, BUT chipping green is artificial, so no reality. Driving matts, no real grass. Now I have to admit stunning putting green in front of the restaurant and great view on 18th green of Old Course. Clubhouse is very nice and stylish. Back to course and game. Finding 1st tee was easy. What a surprise was that course is completely dry, there were not much green grass on fairways. Biggest disappointment were greens. Fast no doubt, good roll, but horrible quality compare to practice green. So we came to Spain to play worst green for 3xhigher price than we have at home. Course is not very difficult, you will not lose a ball if you play wisely, fairways are wide. What was weird that all par 3 had same distance, so no imagination. Design wise its nothing special, there are nicer courses. Signature hole for me would be probably 4th. Personally I have no feelings for this course, but its...
