A beautiful route, zigzagging between hills and valleys, takes you to Cala Benirràs, a charming cove of coarse sand, surrounded by hills and rocks where you can climb to enjoy the fabulous views of the sea and the famous rock formation called Cap Bernat (also known as "finger of God"). The waters are crystal clear, and the seabed is rocky, making it ideal for snorkeling! It's not that great to get into the water though...although that's the fun part!
This sheltered bay is a popular mooring point for private yachts and power boats that gather in the late afternoon to enjoy the romantic sunset, in summer accompanied on Sundays by people with drummers who go to the beach to bid farewell. the sunset in this iconic hippie ritual. This drumming ritual is a unique Ibiza experience, established over many years.
However, the popularity of the event means that the beach is filled to the brim every Sunday. Parking becomes impossible (see above), so we recommend arriving early and spending the whole day on the beach, or taking the bus. Due to the popularity of Sundays, drums are also played on other nights in the summer. They start about 15-20 minutes before sunset. It's not the same as the Sunday party, but it's just as nice and a lot less crowded.
During the summer there is also a charming hippie market every day except Wednesday and Thursday from late morning to late afternoon, featuring stalls selling fashion, accessories, crafts and more. See pics...

When we arrived on Saturday, there was a small hippie market selling handmade jewellery and bags. In the evening, there were people playing drums and doing yoga on the beach, adding to the overall atmosphere of the passing day.
The beach itself has umbrellas and sunbeds to rent (3 EUR each for a full day), peddle-boats to rent (highly recommended, as the water further away from the beach is literally transparent - best swim of the trip!), and gives you a choice of three restaurants (all quite expensive for the quality you get, but big portions, a solid 3.5 stars).
The parking area is not far from the beach, a 5 minute walk, and is free. Even on a Saturday, it was easy to find a spot.
Would definitely revisit this beach again...
Read moreOne of Ibiza's most iconic beaches. Benirras is protected on three sides by forested hills which lead to a lovely sandy beach and views down the protected bay which will take your breath away.
Swimming and snorkeling are both fantastic in the calm, sheltered, crystal clear water. The beach has blue flag status and is pristine.
A mini hippy market and three beach restaurants provide amenities, but the restaurants in particular are quite pricey. Not surprising given the position.
Parking is free an plentiful but even so, in the summer months it can be difficult to find a spot. Sunday night is particularly busy and people often walk a mile or more from their car... But at least the walk is a lovely one!
It's a beautiful beach and well worth a visit. Four stars instead of five simply because it can be crowded and food...
