We have booked very much in advance a tour and a tasting and lunch on one Saturday afternoon at 12:30. We were also proposed a boat trip to add to the overall experience, and I thought It would have been nice. However we misjudged the time to arrive to the river to take a boat and realized we would have been late for the boat trip. To be kind, we have written an email and subsequently called to make sure we cancel the boat trip So that they do not wait for us. The lady on the phone decided to change our booking to a more convenient time for her, creating a complet mess our of an absolutely ordinary situation. We have called 3 times, trying to tell her in Spanish and English ( she refused to speak if by the way) that we do not want to change the time of the tour, but she refused and told us it was not possible at all and that our tasting would be at 13:30, followed by lunch at 14:30. This was something completely different then we had agreed upon before. So since we were already close by, we decided to pop in and speak directly. Luckily for us, the owners son Fabio was there and he welcomed us with a lot of kindness and willingness to show his wines and their passion. We absolutely LOVED the experience, the wines, the explanation, his professionality, his dedication and knowledge and we are so greatfull that at the end we did decided to come. The wines are absolutely lovely, the amount of work they put into their wines it’s astonishing and you can really feel the work and the dedication they have for their territory, it’s preservation and the culture And tradition. The rude lady on the other hand, had the guts to come and tell us off, that we have changed her plans and did what we were apparently not suppose to do. Bad review for her, but wonderfull review for Fabio and his family and their wines!! Thank you so much again Fabio....
Read moreAlgueira is one of those rare places in the Spanish wine industry where the respect for the "terroir" is something more than a marketing message. The passion of the family owner of the winery is transmitted to you in an impressive wine tasting (10 EUR). Audiovisual displays of the vineyards with detailed explanations of the soils and orientations including a retrospective vision of how they were looking like in the past century helps you to realise the incredible amount of work and love focused on this land to create wine combining art and science (they are actually working now with 16 different local grown grapes and trying to recover more in the future). We were in a group of four and felt safe all the time with enough space kept between the small groups present in the wine tasting. Everybody was wearing a mask (a must on these COVID times). We opted to go for the full Monty package (canyon boat trip + wine tasting + restaurant meal) and we enjoyed it tremendously. It helped to have the boat only for us, not only on COVID safety reasons but also for the privacy and extra space we could enjoy. The view of the terraced vineyards from the river is breathtaking due to the steep hills surrounding it. If you happen to be visiting this magical corner of Spain, this is a worthy day trip. It is a must if...

Adega Algueira is a family winery, which offers the full experience, from wine tasting, special meal and boat trip along the River Sil.
The wine tasting was perfectly arranged and educative too, as they provided extensive information about local grapes, vineyards specificities (in the slope of a mountain), and current wine marketing situation.
We very much enjoyed lunch at their restaurant - fresh local food - some dishes with a twist. 😋
We found the river boat tour very pleasing and the steepness of the vineyards was even more impressive through this perspective.
All in all, we had a fun, gastronomic and educative experience. Totally...
