三毛故居 — Attraction in Telde

A very sentimental visit to me. Sanmao died before the time I was born, but I read a lot of her stories as a child. She was always an inspiration to me. I am glad that her legacy remains and continue to inspires so many more from the younger generation.

Judging from previous posts, it looks like the sign has been updated at the front of the house. The house owner was inside so I left after a short while, didn’t feel like interrupting his private life.

Walk about 50m down the road towards the beach you will find a small children playground with more memorial mural paintins and information about Sanmao. There are a few lines from the song lyric of 不要問我從那裡來. Got me emotional when I saw 我故鄉在遠方 (My Home is Far Away) after I left home for so long and so far (especially we are still in a pandemic making it difficult to go home).

Not much going on here, I also didn’t expect much but I am glad I came here for a quick visit. My partner didn’t know anything about Sanmao nor he understood what a big cultural moment I was having. It was a very personal memory for myself as a Chinese. But I really appreciated he came along with me.

We came here as a group to visit the residence where the famous Taiwanese writer has lived for 10 years. It was a short drive from Maspolomas and easy street parking. The location was great for some 打卡 photo taking opportunities. Highly recommended if you visit Gran Canaria. There is a restaurant not to far away which serves a good selection of local cuisine and the price is reasonable. They even have Chinese translation...

文青必打卡之地~ 小时候读过的三毛《撒哈拉的故事》就是在这里写的。沿着这条路下坡到海边，西班牙政府在这里建了一个小小的三毛主题公园，值得一看。

A must-visit spot for literary enthusiasts~ Sanmao's The Story of the Sahara was written here. Follow this road downhill to the beach, where the Spanish government has built a small Sanmao-themed park—definitely worth a visit.
