We visited Castillo de Calaceite with our family during the Easter holidays. Located along the coastal road between Nerja and Malaga, this spot isn’t an actual castle, but rather a charming miniature sculpture. While it may feel modest to those expecting a real fortress, it’s a place full of unique charm and character. Castillo de Calaceite was created by a Danish artist using stones and various materials found on the beach. You can’t climb or explore inside the structure, but its delightful details and quirky design are impressive. Our children enjoyed taking photos with the little castle as a backdrop, and they were fascinated by the imaginative atmosphere it inspired. Even during Easter, the area wasn’t crowded, so we could enjoy the site at a relaxed pace. It’s conveniently located for a quick stop during a beach walk or a drive along the coast. There’s no entrance fee or facilities, but it’s perfect for a brief photo stop and making small family memories. Parking was easy, as we could simply pull over by the roadside, and there are beaches and restaurants nearby, making it easy to combine with a meal or a stroll. While it’s not a major tourist attraction, I’d recommend it to families looking for a unique photo spot during their Costa del Sol trip. If you’re with children, it’s a quaint and cheerful place to spark their imagination and create a special memory, even if just for a short visit.
