It's nice exploring the winding streets and narrow paths on the way up to the ruins of the historic 12th-century castle. While only the tower and some wall remains are left, and while in places the path up to Castillo de Zahara de la Sierra is quite steep, it's well worth it. From here you have absolutely stunning views over the charming and picturesque town of Zahara de la Sierra, which as most if not all of its buildings are painted white, is known as a pueblos blanco or "white town". From the top you have amazing 360 degree views of the surrounding Andalusian valleys and hills and the man-made lake. It's clear why the Moors originally built the castle in this location. It's a perfect site to serve as a fortress in case of attack. The castle, a "Moorish eagle's nest", would have stood guard over the whole valley.

Amazing scenery from the top of the tower. This is a spot full of history and open for further research. You get to visit the homage tower, which is very well conserved. There's plenty of bits of information about the different epochs of the old, disappeared medieval city, and a small interpretation center at the rediscovered ruins of a church. Great experience that requires a lot of slope climbing, so be prepared! The stone pathways are a bit slippery too and there aren't too many handrails, so take care and enjoy one of the most amazing views and historic places in the area.

This is a must to visit. But be prepared with good walking shoes. The slopes are quite steep, but the tower is well worth the climb. Visit the small modern building on the side of the fortress for some good archeological information. The glass floors will give the children something to talk about. Views are outstanding, and you can see the junction of the three provinces from here. There is only one entry and exit point. So don't look for another. There is an entry fee of 3.5 euros per adults and children are free.

Staying in the town itself is nothing. Start your climb up to the remains of the 13th-century Moorish castle and you will experience the magic of this place. Amazing views of the Zahara el Gastor reservoir and its turquoise waters. All these valleys and mountains around and the town below. The wind gently chills on a hot day and the silence all around. Fantastic place!

A beautiful castle in a tiny village at the skirts of an absolutely stunning Grazalema parque. The entrace fee is 3.5 euros and allows you access to the castle and the movie screening educational center. It's a short climb to the tower itself and you can fo a circular trail, climbing from one side and going down from another, whichever side you chose to go first.
