The twin falls of Jodu Ella Falls , also known as ‘Bambarella Knuckles falls’, have identical lengths (45m) and cascade simultaneously from both ends of the mountain into the Mahaweli River via the Hulu Ganga River. The Moragaha River is the source, which springs from Me Malai, part of the Knuckles mountain range. Before reaching the falls, the water flows down seven chutes and through several pools.

In the surrounding area medicinal plants abound and there is a wide variety of wildlife including wild boar, porcupine (Ceratophora tennenti) and a lizard endemic to the island known locally as dumbara and katussa. The area at the top of the falls has been denuded, causing concern that the aquifers might dry up and erode the land.

The Moragaha River flows across Bambarella, Baddegama and Kosgamma, before reaching the Huluganga River. Jodu Falls is situated in the Patha Dumbara Electorate (Panwila Provincial Division, Thavalatenna GS area). From Wattegama travel the 24km via Bambarella to Panwila. The rest of the journey is not possible by road so trek the last 1km from the border of the Knuckles mountain range to the fall.

Amazing Lanka

Such a adventurous hiking through tea estate to reach here. There is no such footpath to the base. Turn to Gomaraya road from Bambarella & climb uphill from Sadun Arana road until you pass nice bridge. From there onward you have to hike through tea estate to reach waterfall base. Overall hike is less than 1km. Beware of leeches. Take only memories, leave only footprints.

Highly recommended for...

Have you ever noticed the waterfall in hundred rupees in Sri Lanka? Here we go. It is jodu Ella aka twins waterfall. Its located in the Panwila area. The pinned location is correct. But when you are planning to visit this place I recommended to pinned location to “sandun Arana meditation center”. You are unable to reach the waterfall by any kind of vehicle. There is small parking at sandun Arana meditations center. You can park your vehicle there(recommended bikes three-wheel or small cars) and continue your journey along the meditation center. But keep in mind to keep calm and not to disturb anyone in meditating center. There is no need to get permission to visit this place.

Around the waterfall is a kingdom of leeches. If the water level is high you can feel the misty condition near the bottom area. Do not recommend to bath cause of the rock condition. Otherwise near the waterfall area isn’t much risky

If you want to see the view as per the 100 rupees note I suggest you visit saari Ella too. On the way to saari Ella, you can see the view as mentioned above from distance. Pinned location is headed you to travel bottom of the waterfall There aren’t any shops or pettikada near the waterfall. You should carry everything that you need. But keep in mind, Please be kind to just visit do not destroy the surround by leaving polythene and other things which you carried.

Stay safe! Stay Green 🖤🌳 𝓝𝓸𝓽𝓮𝓼 𝓯𝓻𝓸𝓶...

Discover another beautiful hidden waterfall in Panwila, located in the heart of Kandy, Sri Lanka. This lesser-known natural attraction is just a short distance from a nearby meditation centre – simply walk about 300 meters along a footpath to reach the falls.

The trail is relatively easy, although the path may be unclear in some spots. No entrance ticket or guide is required, and with a little care, you can easily follow the trail to this peaceful waterfall.

This waterfall is also featured on the Sri Lankan 100 Rupee note, making it a must-visit location for those exploring the Panwila or Knuckles Mountain Range area. Surrounded by nature and offering a quiet retreat, it's perfect for nature lovers, hikers, and travel...
